I Just installed an HID kit on my Cavy and all seems to be going fine but one thing. Sometimes when I turn the car on and turn the lights on only one turns on at first. Then I turn them off and wait about a minute to turn them on again. After turning them on the second time they both come on. It seems to switch on which side turns on first. The left or right. I disabled my drl's and I had two spare fuses laying around and switched them as well. One is a 25 and the other 30. Is there anything I am doing wrong or might of missed. Help would be great. Thanks
Mine did the exact same thing right before one of my bulbs blew, so Im listening to what fixes it....I miss my hids
Thanks man. That's one thing that was worrying me. hopefully that is not it and someone knows what the problem could be or maybe a fix for it.
You need a relay. The relay will pull straight from the battery and will provide all the juice the HIDS need to start correctly. The factory electric system has too many restraints on it to allow full flow compared to pulling straight from the battery.
Where can I find this relay at and about how much do they run.
Ok I was looking on ebay and found some and it says if you disable you drl's you won't need it. Is that true cause I amhaving the problem even after I disabled them.
As you noticed, what was said on eBay was false.
Alright thanks. I bought a set of relays for the kit. When they get in I will install them and hope that the problem will be fixed. Thanks for your help guys.
Not to jack the thread, but I had a relay harness on mine and it still did this...What could have done that?
I don't know why everyone says that you need a relay harness. I have HID's in both my 03 cav's.....no extra harnesses at all. You just need to find the right kits. I'll take a look at mine when I get a chance. I can't remember the name off hand.

I've got a kit from VVME, and I know 8 people that that bought them when I bought mine and none of them have had problems, so maybe I got a bad kit? Who knows...but the customer service with them sucks, they want me to pay 30 dollars to ship my kit back to them, then THEY will decide if they want to replace it or not.
Which turned on first, the driver's or passanger's?
I got all sorts of issues on mine that I have to run the stock lights again.
So.. listening on this.

usually bad connections/inferior ballasts cause this flickering on start up, especially if not running a relay harness.

Dont forget the crappy stock wiring on these cars.

Well actually when I turn the car on it can't make up it's mind which one it wants to turn on first. Most of the time it was the drivers that would turn on. Now It switches from time to time. I have bought a relay harness I am just waiting for it to get here so I can install it and hope it's fixed. I do try to not drive the car at night so I don't have to turn them on.
i think your probelms will be solved with a relay harness. to those of you that HAVE a relay harness, check your grounds, and make sure they arent painted.
Grounds are on bare metal, relay harness was wired correctly, no extra draw from anything and my kit still flickered and blew a bulb....hmm

sounds like you have a bad ballast. I would say it is not a cheap/inferior one as thats a pretty decend name in aftermarket HID
I thought it could have been a ballast as well, but I hooked up both of them to my friends kit on his cobalt and it lit both lights right up, no flickering at all...and both lights came on together.
ok i have the same exact problem.. i gave it a little time and they both come on at the same time now.. i thought it was the ground so i grounded directly to the battery but it still kept doing it. then i thought it was the cold for some reason and then as it got warmer (i know temperature has nothing to do with them turning on but what ever lol) they both came on almost all the time.

I just received my kit for my fogs Monday from VVME and I hooked them up with no issues. They fire right up alongside my hids in my headlights from a no-name maker. Both kits are using relay harnesses.

then i would look at the wiring......factory and HID.
Well I just received my relay kit today. As soon as I got home I installed it and it seems to be working just fine. As soon as I turned the lights on the both came on at the same time. I just hope it stays that way.
the problem comes with the fact that 00 and up cavaliers with the bcms use a constant positive to the light plugs and a triggered ground system. the ground isnt strong enough so relays are required. you need to use a relay on the power and just straight ground the ground wire on the hid kit....
