Convertible top question
Thursday, January 18, 2007 9:34 AM
Im thinking of buying a sunfire convertible today that I looked at. When I looked at it though, I noticed the top was leaking a little around the back window. Would that be fixable without replacing the whole top? If not, how much would it be to replace the top? Can it be done without taking it to a shop? If anyone has any information please let me know!

Thank you!

you may be able to replace just the rear window, but w/o seeing it i cant guarantee anything. and yes you can replace the whole top by yourself...however be prepared for alot of work and a big chunk of change. unless you get a top from ebay or the likes, i believe the dealer is the only other option and they charge approximately 1 million dollars, or maybe closer to a grand. finding a wrecked vert is also an option, but the top's condition may or may not be as good as yours.

personally, vert = buy it now worry about fixing it later. good luck and post up some pics if/when you get it

What she didnt mention was that the window is leaking because its seperating from the top in some places, almost like whatever adhesive thats holding it on the top or whatever is dry rotting

http://www.topsonline.com If you want a new top. I got a cloth one w/glass rear window , $475 or so shipped. Put it on in about 7hrs. but I have all the air staplers and stuff to do it with.

here is a super cheap top on ebay. maybe you could use it?
if its still going at that price at the end of the auction i may pick it up and dye it black. you cant touch any other top for $20!

3M Urethane Adhesive

Do you think this would work temporarily, until I get a new top ordered?

i dont see why that wont work, esp if its just a temporary fix.

BTW....did you see that link i posted for a full top on ebay? i picked it up and dont care to sell it to you for that price. I just couldnt let it sell for $20 and not pick it up. you should be able to just put the window in and use ^^^ adhesive to put your window in this top. if youre going to buy a new top anyway, you might as well get this one. i dont need it, i just got it cause it was so damned cheap.
