Fixing a Carbon fiber hood
Sunday, November 26, 2006 4:22 PM
I was searching and I couldnt find it but I was wondering if you could fix the coating on a carbon fiber hood. I hit a deer with my car last night and messed up the whole front end. The weave isnt missed up but the hard plastic is missin off of some of the hood and I was wondering if it could be fixed. Thanks for any information for this.

just fix it like fiberglass.. but ud have to paint that area.. cuz u wont have the weave there anymore..

thats really the only way i know.. could possible fix it, primer and paint the whole thing black, then have someone rewrap it in carbon fiber..

Probally cheaper to get a whole new cf hood then it would be to fix your damaged one.

well since the weave is fine, and its just the epoxy resin that is cracked off...you can technically fix it still.

if you use some kleer koat resin from uscomposites, you can lay on the clear resin. Once it is cured, use some 300 grit sand paper and sand the resin smooth. by sanding the hood in that whole area you will level out the clear resin. then get the whole hood re-cleared from a shop.

I dont really see why that wouldn't work.

if you don't go that route, some fiberglass sanding, and painting in that area will be required.

lol, yeah it did.
I was thinkin about doin the fire swap to it, can anybody give me some input to what I should do. I have all the parts to fix it or i could trade them all and get a fire front clip. (Thats if I can find somebody willing to trade.) I been wanting to do it for a long time and now would be a good time to do it. thanks again for all the help.

listen to the man.....thats exactly how you fix your hood. $30 for the resin and sand paper and then whatever it costs to reclear the hood from a shop. since youre doing all the prep work, you should be able to get it shot for less than $50, around here anyway.
good luck fixin it or swapping
