rear window tint problem
Thursday, November 09, 2006 2:01 PM
well i had all my windows tinted around, and i have no problem except for the back one. The guy, who is a tinted my car at the shop had a difficult time doing the back window. At the top of the window there are those little tiny dots everywhere, and also the defroster lines all across the back window. Well around all the small tiny dots, there are air bubbles, and he says theres no way to fix it? I just wanted to see if that is true or not. Did anyone else have this problem or are ur windows find up there? The windows are guarenteed for 5 years by the way too. Thanks!

you cant tint that area
our tint guy used blak vynay to cover it from the inside
no one can tell the differance
i have no air bubbles but my glue is starting to break down
causing it to look blurry from the inside

haha thanks, well i wouldnt say there are 6390669039036 posts on it, and barely any of the 8 you posted were about what i asked, just on tint in general, but i appreciate the help. So pretty much the best bet is to just get vinyl put on and have the guy put the tint over the vinyl? I think he was just getting lazy and doesnt want to fix it. Plus the fact he put it on when it was record highs in the summer in the 100s, i think that made him rush and want to get outta the car, lol, i dont blame him on that, but i still want the job done right since i paid for it.

i did to my cavalier and did it to my Grand Prix. Put the Black Vynal on the outside if you use the right one on the outside you can barely tell it is on there.

oh, you put it on the outside? will it work on the inside too?

Everyone of the posts that I linked talked about the dot matrix on the outside.

Every single one. You actually might have to read the entire thread before someone brings up the topic, but it's there.

And no, you don't get tint put OVER the vinyl strip- tint goes on the inside, vinyl on the OUTSIDE.

oh, yeah i didnt really read all of them, too much reading, ill save the reading for school that i need to do, lol. thanks for everyones help! so do you's think i should make the guy redo it right then?

Well, if you don't want to READ (which is actually what you're attempting to do in THIS post), then you could've scrolled and looked at all the pretty pictures that showed exactly how everyone else does it.

BREAKING IT DOWN: What everyone is trying to tell you is that you need to get a piece of black vinyl and put it on the OUTSIDE to cover up all the dot matrix.

Everything that there is to know is in those posts I linked....but if you're too lazy to read any of those posts, then you're probably not reading what I have to say, either. I don't know how you can help someone that isn't willing to help himself.

And I never said you have to answer all my questions. And sorry i dont have as much time on my hands as you do, i work 40+ hours a week, and go to college full time and try to have a life in between there somewhere, i just dont live on the org. And like i said, half the post u gave had nothign to do with the problem, i mighta said a word or 2 about the matrix dots, but barely anything.

Yes make him fix it, especially if there is any type of warranty

thanks kardain, i didnt have a clue what to search b/c i didnt know what the dotmatrix were called, and i never really was sure what forum it would be under. well those links u gave are real good, thanks! it seems like you can do it just about any way, put the vinyl on the inside or outside of the car. yeah, i think i def should go back even though i already did b4 and he said theres no way to fix it, lol talk about some warranty. thanks again

Well, even if only half of my posts talk about the dot matrix (which all of them did, cause I actually searched, read the posts [have also posted in a lot of them myself] and saw it), then I've still already answered your question.

And who said that I lived on the org?? lol All I did was a very quick search (like Kardain did) and then scanned through posts for talk of the dot matrix tinting problems and everyone using black vinyl, and linked them.

I will admit that 2 of the links aren't very informative on your exact situation, but the other 7 are. A couple of the posts are EXACTLY about your problem. Even one of the ones that Kardain linked...was one of the ones that I posted.

Even if you did know what to search (and came up with the same links that I posted), wouldn't you have to read them, too?

You could just be glad for the help, but you're all like, Eh, I'm too busy to read, so I think that I'll pass.

yeah, sorry, it just seemed like u were tyring to be a dick to me. I did skim the first 4 or 5, and they all kinda said the same thing to do w/ the dot matrix stuff. Its a lot easier to have a post on just the one topic if you know what i mean. It was like one of the spur of the moment things, b/c i always forget about it, then i remembered quick and decided to get some help, b/c these are what the forums are for, if i am correct, to help each other out. thanks

oh, and i was glad for the help as i said thanks in every post(except the one where u were being rude).....go check

Re: rear window tint problem

I wasn't trying to be rude, I was just a little upset by the fact that I posted a couple of links that were dead on with your topic and you just said that you didn't want to read them.

its all good, i appreciate it. I never said i didnt read them, I did read the first couple, but after the first couple i got the point. But back to the question, lol, i know people said they put thier vinyl on the inside and some peole put it on the outside, personally i dont really wanna have mine on the outside if possible, b/c how it will get abused by the winter weather, but i guess it being on the outside will provide the best results, so just do the outside, maybe after winters over? lol thanks everyone

A good tinter will tint right over the dot matrix with no problem.

yup some good tinters will pre shrink the area so that the tint will stick in to the dot-matrix. Otherwise if you let the tint in that area "dry-out" like an ordinary window the tint will begin to un-stick from the dot-matrix within the first 1hr or so of applying which is why you see the dots. Ask the tinter about it, some never have to deal with a large span dot-matrix found on our rear window and don't know how to do it.
