I am just wondering if anybody who doesnt have tint on their front windows but on the back you have it to post a pic of it. I got pulled over for it last night and got a warning because i just acted retarted about everything and told him i bought it with my car. I want to see what a car similar to mine would look like without front tint...just in case i get a ticket and have to take it off...I registered 32% and the dick pulled me over on my way home...hes the only one in our area who cares

Almost everybody that has tint on their cars have it on the back window and a stripe along the top of the front. There's a certain distance from the top that you can have tint on the front window legally.

legally you can only tint front windows that are AS-1 and the tint can't go below that line. I didn't thint my front window since its not an AS-1, but I have the rear window tinted at 20% no problems so far.

Burks- no pics sorry.

James from OK, Import Killer from CT, Kevin from LA- You do know that laws vary from state to state don't you? The Tenth Amendment and all that.

Anyway, to help stop the spread of misinformation:

Merged Iowa Code Statutes Title VIII Subtitle 2

321.438 Windshields and windows.
1. A person shall not drive a motor vehicle equipped with a windshield, sidewings, or side or rear windows which do not permit clear vision.
2. A person shall not operate on the highway a motor vehicle equipped with a front windshield, a side window to the immediate right or left of the driver, or a side-wing forward of and to the left or right of the driver which is excessively dark or reflective so that it is difficult for a person outside the motor vehicle to see into the motor vehicle through the windshield, window, or sidewing. The department shall adopt rules establishing a minimum measurable standard of transparency which shall apply to violations of this subsection.
3. Every motor vehicle except a motorcycle, or a vehicle included in the provisions of section 321.383 or section 321.115 shall be equipped with a windshield in accordance with section 321.444 .

And from here (I couldn't find the official Code page):

Under Iowa Administrative Code 761-450.1(321) safety glazing materials or multiple glazed assemblies thereof intended for use at levels requisite for driving visibility in the motor vehicle shall show regular (parallel) luminous transmittance of not less than 70 percent of the light at normal incidence, both before and after irradiation.

So in summary, In Iowa, all windows can be tinted to 70 percent light transmittance.

And so I won't have to post again, for those who want to argue that you can't tint the windshield, blah, blah, blah, I have posted the most current Iowa law I found. If I'm wrong, cite an actual Iowa law, not what a cop in Vermont told your cousin's ex-wife's high school lab partner.

Sorry Dude no new pics with the Tints, I'm back in school for the summer in Boston, so my car is in the garage. But like Mike said, every state is difference. Just for reference here is a link for every bit of info for tints in your state. IOWA Tint laws But like I said any sun strip on the front window is illegal unless the window is an AS-1, but a Cop won't be able to tell that without looking for himself. Since you have a '03 Fire, pretty much the same as my '04, your windshield is not an AS-1. All AS-1 windows are marks near the driver side in small letters with an arrow marking the line for a sun strip. I don't have the strip so If you need anyother pics of my car its on my car domain page.

Import Killer- That "tint law" page is unreliable at best. Reading the Iowa law I posted, it appears it has Iowa wrong (I don't see windshield restrictions in the law). It also has Pennsylvania wrong, so 0 for 2 in these cases. How many others are wrong?

I'm pretty certain Mike's the same guy I got in a discussion with about the Pennsylvania tint laws. I've accepted that tintcenter is either not up to date or made some things up since they didn't have the information, just listen to Mr. Brock on this one.

No, don't listen to me. Find the laws, read them, understand them, and decide for yourself. Then stand up for yourself if you're legal.

well in texas if you do not have an AS-1 line then it has to be 5" or less from the top of the windshield,

Not to start a fight or anything, but all tint laws are left to interpritation. Since the laws says that you can not operate a vehicle with a windsheild that does not premit a clear vision, and since tint can only be 70% VLT or more, then a 35% strip on a windshield can constitute a cop to percive the windsheild as as not having "clear" vision. Unless it was a 70% strip which is near next to no tint at all. The way around it is to have a windshield with an AS-1. Any car that has a factory sun strip on the front window has an AS-1 line. Im just trying to help out here, but don't go and shoot me down because you think the website isn't right at all, I'm not from Iowa, but I do know that the CT law is correct.

shouldn't start a fight becuase your right the federal standards are one thing the states can make their own law but can't be over that law. the cities the samething. state of texas says your sides can't be darker then 20% richardson city law says 25%. it would almost go with the samething abotu decals where the windshield wipers are.

OK, Burks posted asking for pictures of cars with no tint on the front windows. I posted to clear up misinformation posted in response, not to start a discussion on tint. Sorry Burks.

Gabe- The US federal government has no right to make tint law for passenger cars (after sale), except for maybe in DC, military bases, and vehicles used in interstate commerce. What they do, if they care enough about something (like the .08 DUI alcohol limit for example), is propose "standards" and if a state doesn't follow those standards, they withhold money. The states are free to have a more lax law if they wish, but most politicians are so money grubbing that they cave and adopt the federal standards as law. Luckily hardly anyone truly cares about tint so the federal standards haven't been forced on all of us, yet.

Tint laws differ from state to state. There is a federal law on tint, but it in now way says that blank percentage is illegal. The federal law just states that there must be some sort of state law in effect, nothing else. Unless you are in the military, then it will pertain to you since the car would be on a military base. But yes, usually it is all up to the cop, who is usually the biggest DH there. Deffinately check out your states laws. Here in California, windshield can not be tinted at all, with the exception of the sun stripe, your not supposed to have the drivers or passengers window tinted since it is illegal here, but we do it anyway. 9 times out of 10 they will not pull you over. I even got away with it on the Military base.

or you can just go to the doctor, and get a note that says sun hurts your eyes and effects your driving and get it written off, and now they have a thing where you can get barcodes on your windows when tinted, and the cops have a tool to scan it and it tells them what percentage it is. this can save you or hurt you. not too popular yet but growing.
