I'm thinking about switching to the LED replacement bulbs for my taillights and was wondering first if they are legal, and second who makes quality bulbs, and lastly, If they are a direct replacement or if i need some kind of transformer? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Gotta keep on livin', L-I-V-I-N
i would venture to guess they would not be legal due to DOT spec.
Secondly there are alot of ways to go about LED tails, there are companies that make led clusters that plug into stock, often the cheapest and easiest way to go, then again u get what u pay for.
Second there is a company that makes "spider lights" or something like that u insert and they kinda open up for a better LED style light, more expensive yet
Finally u can do a retrofit with your own leds and make whatever design you want, for more info about this check out www.hidplanet.com/forums alot of good info in the LED section telling what types of pulse width modulator you would need so the blinks are the same speed as normal etc.

Check with your state's laws. The lights have to be visible from a certain distance.
Pre-assembled bulbs (3357's) sit too far back in the tail and cannot be adequately seen in the day as brake lights (at least on my test run this summer), depending on the manufacturer of the bulbs. Too much light dispersion
LED's are happiest darn near kissing the lens. Clearer and less light dispersion.
