Thanks luke....

Well I got 2.1.19 and got this file opened up - sure as women have titties - it's speed density!

I'm still in shock about this.

A few things to note, the IPW Multiplier table is missing, as is the low RPM coastdown VE table....

I'll keep looking at it and comparing...

Ok pre2k LD9's... here is the exciting news.

I opened up my 2000+ GMSC reflash, and went through every table, and they copy/paste over, everything fits and nothing is different or weird... theoretically this should work.

What does this mean? This means 1997-1999 now has a GMSC reflash available to it... copy and paste and install a 2 bar map sensor and boom - you have 15 psi of controlled boost tuning.

Anybody getting excited yet?

Very very few differences between the 1997 and 1999 and 2000 pcm's in terms of HPT... the aforementioned tables are missing as well as the AFR vs ECT table in PE is lacking a few cells but it's not the end of the world.

I think I may be registering this VCM file in HPT within a week or so and pumping the GMSC tables into it. I haven't been this excited since HPT showed up at my door....

Guess you wont be needing this ECM I have here for you, anymore?

Keep us updated on what you find. I just might need to do the same.

hopefully this is a big thing for the pre-00' guys, i hope everything works out.

If anyone has success with this, please kick me back your tuned files.

good luck.....

P.S.....this discovery came from a Pontiac NOT a Chevy.......

Holy crap, I was just asking people about this problem.. We ran out of tables. On Wednesday we tried to tune past 10 psi and my 99 computer would NOT let me at all, the car would run so rich in the high rpms and it would fall flat on its face... . Im going to give this info to my tuning guy...

The only problem I can see at this point is MAYBE the '97-'98 PCM will freak out over the KNOCK SENSOR. '99> use a 2 wire (blue connector pin #32 & 34)sensor ,<'99 use a 1 wire (blue connector pin #33).

Btw, us Pre 2k guys would we need the gm 2 bar map if this all works out?

So can you just read the operating system on one car, say my 01 re-flashed Z, transfer it to another, say a 99 z, and do a write entire???

Yes. MAP from a S/C GTP will work (about $15 at salvage).

Nope. You can't flash between '00> and <'00. You'll have to license the '97 file and the '99< PCM so it'll cost you 4 credits. (Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong)...

And don't forget that this might a problem to overcome.

The 1997 pcm WILL freak out over the 1999 2 wire knock sensor, you need to repin the ECU for it and bolt it up to the block. I have both installed on my car right now since I switched from 98 - 99 originally to dump the EGR.... (pre HPT)

You don't copy the 2000+ ECU over, you copy all the tables that involve fueling and spark... you then install a 2 bar map sensor and that's that. While the tables will only READ to 100 kpa they will in fact work to 200 since all GM did when they created the GMSC program was double all the values x2 rather than adding cells.

lol... surprisingly - nobody seems to care... which is fine with me. I'm getting a 2 bar thanks to SpeedRacerZ and I will be trying this out on my 1998 PCM as soon as I can... it'll be at least a month tho.

I currently have the files sent out to HPT to add the missing tables if they can.

Update:

HPT got back to me with a new 2.1.19 beta... they have added the minimum spark advance table to ALL the I4 cal's now rather than just the GMSC cal.... which is great.

But they cannot add the IPW vs VAC table or the low RPM coastdown table... they aren't available in 1997... so what we have is what we have... it's still quite useable, but the IPW multiplier would have been quite helpful though.

Now I just need to get a running car together with a 98 PCM and 1 wire knock sensor....

p.s - Whitecav - I liked the old sig better. That smooth red H.O manifold was titties.

How come your switching to the 1 wire Knock sensor? Is that recommended for us pre 2k ers using hpt with the new cal's?

Thanks, yea i do like the other sig better as well

'95-'98 used a one wire knock sensor. '99> used a 2 wire. The '99> 2 wire is smaller. If your going to flash your PCM to a '97 you'll have to change your knock sensor to the one wire.

You'll need to remove the smaller knock sensor, drill out the hole in the block and tap it for the bigger thread of the one wire sensor.

Drill size is "Z" or 10.5mm Tap size is 12mm x 1.25 thread (a 90* drill motor is really handy here)...

Then you'll need to repin the DARK BLUE wire in the BLUE connector on the PCM. It'll be Pin #34 move that wire to Pin #33. Then use the DARK BLUE wire from the 2 wire connector(old knock sensor) to get a signal from the new 1 wire sensor.

David did you ever get the e-mail I sent you showing how to repin the PCM connectors???

Gary is correct on the repinning... fortunately I don't have to convert back - my car started as a 1998 and I pinned a 2 wire knock sensor in for my 1999 flash 4 years ago.... but I left the old 1 wire knock sensor installed and pinned in so now I can flash back and forth as I like.

Ohhh ok, Im still a bit confused.. Im not flashing my pcm to 97, ill keep the 99 for now and tune off that.

Gary, I did get that, thank you.. Still waiting on my tuning guy to get back with me.

Chris, so if my tuner already has HPT, how does he get the new 2.1.19 beta and the new minimum spark advance table?

Mike, yea ill be more excited when I really know and undsterand whats goin on with HPT and getting my pre 2k car tuned like the GM reflash stuff.

David, email support@hptuners.com with your serial # and request 2.1.19 beta...

Why won't you flash back to 1997? It's as simple as pinning in a 1 wire knock sensor and bolting to the block and spending 2 credits to license the 1997 file? To me 1 hour of work and $99 usd is worth having a speed density PCM - I've been waiting for this for a long time and I personally wouldn't let a few things get in my way of making it work.

To answer your question about your 1999 pcm - I ran to 20 psi of boost on my 1999 pcm flawlessly... you wanna know how? You won't like the answer. AFMU.

Take the $$$ you'd waste on an FMU and put it into this. Trust me.

(And I will still be using an AFMU with this PCM just in case for a bit myself)

Well my worries are

1)After redrilling the block and putting the new knock in, How do we know that ALL 97's will be compatible with this? Maybe like liquid plasma said, he may just have a freakish pcm.

2)How in the heck am I supposed to get behind the block with all the turbo stuff back there besides taking it off? lol

3)I have an auto tranny and there is no way from going underneath.. Looks like ill drop the tranny if it comes down to it, I need to install my LSD anyway.. ughhh lol..

PS, im not trying to be difficult here.. Just trying to understand a little bit more.. Thats all..
