re-styling ? remember when they redid the modern Monte Carlo to resemble the lines of the 70's models? the HHR and the SSR are trying to be 40's and 50's looking trucks, I don't think either pulls it of very well all the way or new design altogether.

now I like the GTO, but I aways thought there was something missing I could never put a finger on.

I Hated the GTO when they first came out. Just for the fact they had no styling cues at at all from the old ones. But now I love them. So they look like a grand am that is even better. I love the fact the car doesn't scream look at me, but has the power to say you better pay damn attention.

PLEASE all the restyling queers shut the hell up

The original GTO was a f#cking pontiac tempest with 2 doors and a little hood scoop, slap in a 389 tri power and bam you have a GTO.

Same thing with the Monaro, EXACTLY the same thing.

Existing car, plus big engine, plus GTO badges = GTO. SAME FORMULA as the original.

dammit

the original gto was a tempest, that is what it looked like
w/ two doors

same concept here

looks like every other pontiac but w/ two doors and a killer engine

that is what a gto is supposed to be
if you don't like it or aren't secure enough to drive one than don't

besides they only make 12k a year so they sell most all they make

I think they styling is o.k, it could be a little flashier but overall I like it. It also looks much better in person than in pics. For those of you that say it looks nothing like the old one, thats pretty lame. Cars styling changes over time, if they had kept the GTO around all these years without changing the style you would be whining "Stupid GM hasn't changed the GTO in 40 years".
I think one of the biggest problems with the car is that you can't get a bare bones model. I don't know much about old muscle cars but as far as I know most came pretty plain other than the big engine. It's not only a problem with the GTO it seems that any car with different engine options the top of the line always has the most standard equipment. This drives up the sticker price. I realize making everything a separate option makes things more expensive, maybe have 2 or 3 equipment packages to keep it simpler.

People that bash the new GTO need to go DRIVE ONE and re-edit their opinion.

People claim that the styling wasn't "exotic" or aggressive enough to be named a GTO. The fact is that even though it's not super aggressive, IT IS A REALLY CLEAN SMOOTH looking body, and does not look bad. I love seeing them on the road they look really sharp.

The interior is phenomenal, build quality is superb. This car handles extremely well at its limits also, the car may be a little heavy, but almost feels like a small car when driving it it's really quick and nimble.

The ls2 powerplant is smooth and power is always there.

And you have room for 4 adults, and their golf bags in the trunk.

For the price that they are available, the GTO's are a steal I don't care what anyone says. Years from now mark my words people will crave this current generation and want one, even the naysayers from before.

As for the people who cry "retro styling", unlike the new retro mustang, the GTO doesn't have the drag coefficient of Howard Stern through vegetable oil. I'm glad they didn't overstyle it.

The styling is subdued, but when you get some punk kid thinking they're up against a mid-90's GTP, the look on their face when the LS2 lights up would be a kodak moment, pure and simple.

Still, having seen one in person, i can say i'm fully impressed, and will get one in black...

i would wait if that happened to me. Even though the dark blue is nice, the rest of the colors do nothing for me, and personally (everyone has their own taste--no offense inteded), i don't like yellow on a car--it doesn't sit with me well for some reason.

I really couldn't see you in a yellow car. I think it would cause the universe to implode.

Then don't piss me off <evil laugh>

Nah, still, there's just something about an extemely shiny black car that looks like liquid darkness driving around at night...

But then again, a GTO is a GTO.

I was going to hold out for a black one, but everybody I ever talked to that had owned a black car said they never would again because the paint ends up getting such bad swirl marks in it.

They just didnt take care of it properly. I had a Black Cavalier for 6 years and the paint never showed swirls, and looked brand new(minus the unaviodable stone chip)

You just have to be ready to care for it like no other.

Damn you all...

Okay...

First, Holden is manufacturing the GTO, however, it IS NOT A REBADGED MONARO.

First off, the Bumpers are US federalised 2.5 mph bumpers.
Second, the Gas Tank is ontop of the rear end.
Third, the Interior is completely different (notwithstanding the RHD/LHD difference)
Fourth, the Monaro front end has more angular lines, whereas the GTO is curved.

The New GTO is faster stock for stock than any other GTO.
The New GTO holds PERFECTLY with the original Pontiac Tempest GTO Package: Big engine, sleeper looks.
The New GTO looks like a Grand Am/Grand Prix (I find Grand Prix more than anything personally) because that is Pontiac's Design direction... Like Cadillac's Art & Science angular designs common across all their models.

And the biggest pisser of it all is that I have to wait 13 years to get one unless the Canadian Gov't accepts the US federalised standards...

From what I can recall the GTO was only going to quit being made was if GM didnt plan on making the RWD cars here in the US. And from what I've been reading over at GMI it seems that GM will be having a few RWD cars coming out (the camaro or a chevy one for that matter), so I doubt we'll see it go away, redesigned most likely but not gone. There is no way GM is going to COMPLETLY give the market to ford.

And i think the production run was to be 3 years, so if I'm not mistaken that would make 07 the last year.

I was just saying it looks nice...I'd still get black (sense a theme here? ).

Red's alright, but many of the other ones do nothing for me. And when I think yellow, i think School Bus or Taxi...
