TOLEDO, Ohio (WUPW) - Toledo is known for its Jeep. But Jeep isn't known for pick-up trucks.
But some Toledo Jeep dealers think that could change.
Dealers were given a sneak peek of a Jeep pick-up during a meeting in Orlando earlier this month.

"They said we've got a surprise for all you dealers out there and they pulled the curtains and they bring out this gorgeous Jeep pick-up truck,” said Denny Amrhein, Managing Partner for Grogan's Towne Chrysler. “They spin it around in front of us for basically 30 seconds, and they say that's all we're going to show you now."

Amrhein said the truck looked very similar to the Jeep Gladiator concept unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in 2005. He described it as a small, sporty pick-up with classic Jeep styling.

“I defiantly think the truck is going to be built,” said Amrhein. “How soon? I couldn't tell you. But I think it will be out for sale with in the next two years and probably sooner than that."

Although Chrysler is not commenting on the possibility of a Jeep brand pick-up, speculation says it would be built on the four-door Wrangler chassis which is currently built in Toledo. However, president of the union which represents Toledo Jeep workers says right now the Wrangler plant is running at full capacity and might not have room for a new vehicle.

“We can build 154,000 cars a year then that's the max," said UAW Local 12 President Bruce Baumhower. "Right now we're doing 130,000. We have room for 20,000. I guess it would depend on the volume they wanted for the pick-up truck. But we'd love to build it. It is got to be built in Toledo. You know Toledo invented the Jeep, especially the Wrangler."

as for the truck, it's kinda cool. reminds me of the gaucho concept they made in the 70's or 80's. they dropped the ball by not putting it into production back then.

i saw one of these on speed doing off roading near moab utah, sick truck much better than my dads commanche

i think the grill ruins it. other than that it doesnt look to bad. I wouldn't buy one unless they made a four door though

Well my guess is since it's based on the Wrangler it's going to be like the old CJ8 Scrambler

My thinking is They're either going to keep the Dodge Dakota or use this as it's replacement. To be honest if they don't redesign the Dakota soon they might as well send it to the grave, I've only seen a handful on the road and the local dealers are almost giving them away price wise
