Need your help on - New car selection
Thursday, January 15, 2009 9:16 PM
JBO - im looking to get a new to me (used car). It has to have four doors and would prefer a manual trans. My budget is around $24,XXX. I am looking at a 2005 CTS-V with 50,000 miles, 6 speed, black for $19,900 or a 2006 BMW 325i Sedan white, 6 speed for $16,000. I will be trading in my 1997 z24 cavalier with 70,000 miles. If you all have other cars in mind please help me out with my search and decision. Any input and comments are welcomed.

with your trade you could get a brand new mazdaspeed3 and have plenty of change left over to play. same goes for a cobalt ss/tc. both are very fun cars to drive, and quite capable on the track. If you're going luxury, the choice you've already listed are both great.

Make sure you press hard for a good deal - the industries hurting and if you've got cash, you own them

also, I would wait to hear if they pass the tax cut for new car purchasing in 09.

might be better to wait, and get a new whip.

remember insurance is a bitch. try to get an older car, Beemers are serious business for insurance companies.

if you look into a BMW remember. RWD, luxury, expensive parts

try out an infiniti G35x - AWD luxury, better pricing on parts (shares motors with Nissan Z and other nissans (VQ35 motor i believe)) insurance isnt as bad as a beemer

other than that
EVO
STI
accord 4door

all mentioned are available in either 5 or 6 speed manual reasonably priced and long lasting strong running cars.

The TL makes up in quality, reliability, cost worthiness, style and jdm tyteness what it lacks in drive train... type s ftw.... or B6 S4... pretty mint.... might run into small electrical issues such as fuel sending unit or coil packs but after that you will be in love...

if he is getting a newer car though, he should get a warranty with it which would cover everything.

i wouldnt let insurance worry you too much.

very true. but generally the parts i was referring to would be tires, oil changes, brakes, and stuff that would be on the part of the consumer to replace.

also, insurance is one of my main deciding factors with my decision. i know i could afford the cars i have chosen, but when it gets down to it... 21 year old male driver with a car, even with no accidents i get raped on insurance.

its actually not all that bad. i pay 50 bucks to get my oil changed at lexus which i dont think is too bad. tires could cost an arm and a leg on any car depending on what brand you get. you can spend 500 on tires for a cavalier with 18s as you could a bmw with stock 18s. brakes i could understand can be on the expensive side but thats something if your a tad handy you can do yourself.

insurance wont be so bad once you hit 25 lol.

4 years away. lol

truth on the tires though. if you play your cards right you can have your expensive tires and pay a lot less for them.

oil changes arent bad and brakes are simple, didnt know whether or not he was so mechanically inclined. many people dont know how or just dont try either.
50 bucks for an oil change isnt bad especially since i pay about 34.00 and do it myself. 23 dollars for the oil(5 quarts), 11 dollars for the filter. and every fifth oil change i just need a filter. haha
