I remember watching his late show when he drove that to work. It was a long while ago. There are several of those cars that have been slapped together by people trying to get that sort of end result..they never look as clean or as refined, but they have to be a lot of fun. There was 1 I remember that was powered by a turbo'd B16...that had to be awesome.

That car is legendary in the SHO-world. Last time I was in that circle, some guy was discussing another production run.

I love the SHOgun But believe it or not, the Festiva's not such a bad modding platform even if you don't want to go that far. The Mazda B6 engines (Mercury Capri, 323/323GT, Miata, etc) bolt in with very little modification.... The BP (the 1.8L Miata/Protege motor) has been put in as well- its a little more work but more power potential overall. There's a guy here in Jersey with a yellow one that has a B6 turbo in it, was running mid 13's last time me and Peej ran into him at the track. I don't think the whole car, engine, trans, mods, and slicks cost him any more than maybe $4K total.

I literally laughed out loud when he said "Some guy pulled up next to me and said hey your big tires are on the back" "Oh really I don't know much about cars" haha yea Jay Leno doesn't know much about cars.

a buddy of mine has a festy with a bp in it. previous owner dropped in higher comp pistons, cams, etc. car gets up and moves pretty good. i think if he could get the thing tuned (not too sure what's avail for engine management) it'd be ridiculous... it's eaten one tranny so far too. and when i say eaten, i mean DESTROYED...

love the shogun.

Strat you're the one who's buddies with Simon too right? Or is that who you're talking about?

Yeah, the stock trans is made of glass, but its not TOOO terribly hard to get the stronger 323/Capri trans to fit in there... I was going to do it to a Festy I picked up for $300 but then I uncovered some hidden body rot I didn't feel like dealing with and scapped it.

yea... simon's a good friend of mine... i've known him since he had the original pimptiva. his current festy is the one i was referring to.

he was talking about doing the 323 tranny in it but decided it's easy enough to go to harry's u pull it and grab another one for next to nothing.

i had a festy too for a short time but it needed too much work to pass inspection and i scrapped mine as well.

Yeah I've been off the Festy forums pretty much since I junked mine.... I didn't know he had gotten another one. If I ever find another one in good shape (which is the real trick) I'll be all over it. I just hate doing body work. I don't care if it runs or if every mechanical and electrical part in the whole car is garbage. Just don't make me do bodywork lol.

yea simon bought dj's bp swapped festy after dj passed away. he had put the kit and hood back on the new car but after awhile, he pulled them off and sold them. he was thinking about getting rid of it but i'm pretty sure I have him convinced to keep it.
