My friend has a silverado ss and he wants to know if there is an add on or mod he can do to switch from AWD to RWD and back. I've looked and have found nothing any help would be appreciated.

other than to convert to a regular transfer case , and he would have to use a manual shift case , as the truck isnt set up for the electronic shift t-case

Re: SS Silverado

forgot , i also think he would have to swap over to the 4wd locking front axle from the 4wd

and a possible front gear change

so more money than its worth

Wasnt AWD an additional 4K option ... the notion of spending money to go back to RWD is ridiculous.

Re: SS Silverado

think awd was standard on the SS the first year , and optional after

Ok well what he wants is the option to go between AWD and RWD. Correct me if im worng but dont STI's have something were you can switch the power transfer to the wheels.

and they have alot more complicated set up , and electronics

and they are in no way comparable to the SS

its not worth it he should of just got a 4wd vehicle and upgraded the engine

why does he want to convert?

To do burnouts.

Alright thanks for the help. He wanted to do rear burnouts and still have AWD performance . One more question the porwer split on those is like 40/60 is there a tune or program that can change that to different ratios.

LMAO. CALLED IT...

I knew the reason to do something dumb would be to do something dumber....

Re: SS Silverado

the t-case has a fixed ratio , no way to change it

And i don't know if this will work it's a page out of GM service Info but it's says someting about the power distribution.

dont think you can really do awd burnouts except for doughnuts/drifting or if you can hold the truck in place while all 4 wheels are spinning

AWD SS

Re: SS Silverado

Oh you can do and AWD burnout and when i get home i'll post some vids of an SS doin some

Re: SS Silverado

that page doesnt work

the t-case is not set up like a 4wd that has a fixed 1 to 1 ratio , or 2.5(or lower) to 1 ratio for lower

the t-case has a given split ratio like 30F/70R , or 40/60 , im sure that is what they are talking about

Yeah you have to be a GM tech and have a password to see it.
But what it says is if the front or rear wheels start to slip the transfer case will alter
power distribution to compensate. But it is for a 4WD system and AWD doesn't function the same way.

Kinda off topic.. But I wouldn't walk back and forth in front of truck that's spinning it's tires like that. Yeah, I know it's got a chain hooked up to it, but still...
