ok...a really weird question...ive got a 06 ion 2.2 with a lot of money into it.(st.2 head from patriot and custom internals from a local speed shop)and i havent been able to drive in over 3 months bc i cant find a way to get extra fuel...
things ive tried so far and wasted a hell of alot of money doing it...
apexi afc2....i love this thing but in 05-06 we got a MAF sensor NOT a MAP sensor...so that didnt work...
ive also tried new injectors with the fuel pump out of my mini stock and the sms fuel rail with bigger fuel lines...didnt work
i dont know anything else to do...
the guy at the speed shop told me to buy a 04 computer and a map sensor then get aem ems...he said it would work, but then again he also said the apex-i afc2 would work too
2006 2.2-
st.2 patriot head
all forged internals...and it still doesnt run!!!!!

1) I hate the SAFC, but I HAVE seen it used successfully on MAF before, maybe you should give that another shot.
2) Why would you buy an 04 ECU to use AEM? AEM is stand-alone, it doesn't use the factory ECU at all.
3) You could just bump up fuel pressure a little (or down with larger injectors)...your idle would suck, but you wouldn't have to worry about destroying your motor in 2 weeks...it would just be 2 years instead

If you read their website, they only support PCM's with the LSJ and LE5 engines (2.0 & 2.4).

yep your right
Maybe you could give more details on your car? Is it turbo charged? If so what psi? Do you want to raise the rev limit? Or is this an all motor build and you have high compression pistons?
If your boosting like 5 psi or something you could get away with a safc but otherwise you need a real stand alone.
Why would you need to change your cars computer to run and AEM EMS?
I would recommend a Megasquirt set up if your poor, or the AEM unit or Electromotive Tec3 if you have some money.
Stay away from the E-Manage.

I would check w/ hp tuners and make sure there is no 2.2 ion compatibility.
EFI live says they are compatible.

its an old issue thats been beaten to death since a year ago. there is no 2006+ 2.2 support from HPT
to the OP:
you could go megasquirt and bypass the factory computer altogether in order to control fuel. Thats the only way I could see getting passed the factory ecu's control.
piggy back's don't do it (apex'i, emanage, etc) but megasquirt does because it completely eliminates the factory ecu's control.
So use EFI live then.

Like the others said I would go with Megasquirt...
