1999 Durango SLT

While looking at an 03 Jetta for the GF, I noticed that the dealer had a 99 Durango SLT on the lot, it is in really nice shape, new tires, clean, and priced what seems to be pretty good. I was thinking of trading in the Sierra for this and cash, and just having it for the winter time, as I would love to buy a CTS, GXP, or Impala SS this summer, but I don't want to be without 4wd in the winter.

Here is the link, tell me what you think, as I know very little about Dodge trucks.

Thanks guys.

Didn't they have transmission problems?

This is more then possible, I don't know.

Does anyone know the specs on the 5.9?

Are the tranny problems recurring? Or have they come up with a permanent solution now, that this truck could have already had, as it is near a decade old?

Or even if it has been fixed once, there is a good chance there will be more problems in the future?

I can deal with problems, just not the same one over and over.

when i bought my 99 rango almost 4 yrs ago i only paid 3,500 more than that although i only have the 318 i did get all the other options and 4wd.

only issues i have had aside from dodges normal rust habits have been a speed sensor in the rear pumpkin and the u-joint in the steering shaft, both of which where rather easy repairs, gearing is less than optimal but i don't go offroading in it anyways.

My parents had a 99 Durango with a 360. When they traded it in, there were only 40,000 miles on it, so I can't comment on the transmission problems, though I wouldn't doubt it, considering basically everyone I know with a Dodge has put a new tranny in it. I can say that the front bumper (the metal strip directly below the headlights) was starting to rust, and it was 5 years old when we got rid of it. The ball joints were replaced once, and were about due for another set (you may have heard about the wheels falling off on them... ). The paint was Patriot Blue, and it was junk. If you didn't wipe off bird poop immediately after it got on the car, there was a big dull spot. I mean, if it was on there for more than 10 minutes, you were screwed. We had the factory molded running boards on it, and the square steel tube inside was completely gone in 4 years. My dad stepped on the running board and it fell off. Thankfully, the dealership we bought it from went 50/50 on the cost of new steel supports (still almost $300).

It was a very nice vehicle, and very nice-looking, but the problems were not little ones that are easily fixed or can just be dealt with. So, I'm gonna have to give a thumbs down.

Well, I don't know the mileage of this one right now, or how it runs, I only glanced at it quickly when I was there looking for something else for the GF.

Still, I don't know of any $6000 vehicle, that will be 100% and give me all I want out of it. I need few things, good ground clearance, 4wd, and comfort for if I take a long trip in the winter.

I am looking for a winter only truck, not a daily driver. I love my Sierra, but I would love a CTS and a beater more,

find a nice K-5 someone already lifted 4"s and put some 33"s under with a 3/4 ton axle swap, or find one yourself and do these things to it and you will not ever get rid of it

done

x2 - even w/a 10 foot pole

I know the Ram trucks had problem with the front end, parts wearing out fast. I have seen a few durango come thur the chrysler/ford dealership i used to work at. The chrysler tech was putting engines in them. But they are still better than a 6.0L Powerstroke(utter junk). If the serra is 4wd, just keep it. Expecially if u just want something for the winter.

thats my $.02
