Molding on 97 cav

I have a 97 cavalier that I want to take the side molding off of. This is probably a stupid question but do I just take a heat gun to it and will the glue melt letting me take it off? Do I need to get it repainted? I just really don't want to do it wrong and have a massive strip going down the side of my car making it look bad. Any and all help will be great! Thanks!

You should be able to just pull it off by hand, starting from the door. (where it breaks to go down the door/quarter) Most likely you'll have adhesive stuck to the car which you'll need to remove with a little elbow grease. Also, it is a '97, I'd expect your paint to be faded since the factory paint job but the paint under the moldings will not be faded. Keep that in mind.
