Noob to the pontiacs and im tired so help me out.

Names Freddie and im new to the Sunfires and ecotecs. Im a member of Nicoclub.com and Newtiburon.com so I usually work on 03 and up tiburons and on Nissans but my GF just got an 05 sunfire with a 2.2 ecotec and wants some work done. Ive been checking on Ebay and have done a little lurking on here and saw to check out Cosmo racing on some intakes. I noticed that the SRI fort he 2.2 and the 2.4 look exactly the same and was wondering if they were? If so then it broadens my options. Any help would be appreciated. Well time to go crash so thanks all and hope to be able to learn and provide some info while im here.

2,2 Ecotecs and 2.4 LD9s are very simular, but as far as aftermarket parts go, you need to be engine specific, one normally doesn't work for the other. The ecotec engine is a completley revised version of the 2.4, while simular looking, there are actually way too many differences and you can't just swap parts. Ecotec engines seem to have a bit more aftermarket support, there's enough stuff out there for them to turn them into a full blown race car.

Well yes i understand about engine specifics ect.. I was just curious about the intakes. Like i said on the Cosmo racing site the 2.2 and 2.4 intakes looked identicle so i was wondering what the exact differences were and if it would fit. figured it was a shot in the dark and was hopeing since i noticed the ones for the 2.4 were cheaper. To give you an idea, i have a 92 Maxima GXE and no one even makes an intake for it yet one from a 93 Honda accord will work with some slight modifications. Didnt know if the intakes were the same bend ect.. as it shows in the pics or if they were exact except for maybe a fitting or something.

The Ecotec is not a revised version of the 2.4. They are two different engines. The Eco is from the GM Euro family (Opel I believe) and the 2.4L is the last generation of the Quad 4 family. Other than the fact that they have 4 cylinders and 2 cams, they are two completely different animals.

Let me put it this way, you work on Tibys...

The Ecotec and the 2.4L Twin Cam are like each other like the old 1.6L I4 Alpha series and the Beta series engines are alike.

Two different families of engines.

For an intake on the Eco, stick with ones that say they are for the Eco, that way it won't rub on the battery or anything else.

Never had one. I used to have a friend that had a 1st gen dark green FX. It was quick and small. Like a little street legal go cart. I loved driving that car.

Another friend of mine has a 3rd Gen with the V6. We just took a road trip to Kansas in it. That's a nice ride.

Just like the Tiby.
