For lack of an introduction section I figured I'd just post this in here. I know most boards like intros before people start posting and acting like they know what they're talking about.
I'm Tyler. I'm boring. I'm a friend of 98redcavz24. I have a slow and ugly 2nd gen DSM. I like joining boards for cars I don't own because the DSM community is full of ignorant jackasses and so are it's message board, so I try not to associate. Plus, I like innovation and intelligence, and if you've made a fast jbody then you must have plenty of both. /intro
Nice to meet you all in advance.
this board has its fair share of jackasses.
but hey welcome tyler

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
welcome Tyler. like what 99redz24 said this forum has its fair share of ignorant jackass's. But this problem plagues most of all forums anyways. From my experience though the most intelligent "sport compact tuners" that i met online where mostly Nissan guys.

Yeah, welcome to the wonderful world of the .org. I'm guessing you'll probably be spending most of your time in the off-topic forum since you probably won't be working on a cavy or Sunfire but there's always the war forum or the other cars forum to check out for non-Js.

Clearly not. DSM boards take ignorance and hard headed stupidity to never before seen levels. Examples...
Few guys tried to argue with me that turbos heat the air because they get hot from the exhaust and that's why supercharges don't need intercoolers. = retards
EVERYONE swears 16G's are the perfect turbo for 350-400hp, but not one person that says that has even broken 300hp with one.
One of the supposed "wisemen" tried to argue with me that stock PCV setup is the best crank case vent method. Then when I proved him wrong with a mountain of evidence and tech articles, he proceeds to give me a ton of warnings and negative rep points for "being an @!#$" and not "having civil discussions" and "attacking people".
I could go on for days, but I doubt anyone cares. Check out www.dsmtuners.com and read a few threads, the idiocy will blow you away.

you'll probably be disappointed then.
Check out my build thread!
lol @ everyone putting this board down...
I just joined to learn a little j-body info so I don't seem like a total idiot around Pete's car.

There are some people around here that REALLY know what there talking about, and there are people that don't know a hub cap from a trow-out bearing. As for me..I have lots of mechanical knowledge but I've only hopped up my own cars, I was just a maintenance mechanic in the military, so fixing things is really the only thing I've put into practice. I have a lot of performance knowledge, I've just never applied it much so I'm not sure how accurate it is so I dont blow my own horn because I don't know everything, theres still alot of J-body specific things I don't know. The problem is that most people unlike me (and sadley, people that know nothing too) just "assume" there right because they think there gods, there pretty easy to filter out though. Just be simple and you shouldn't get burned much. Welcome to the site dude.
I've found it's like that pretty much everywhere you go. Every community has its share of idiots that think they know this and that because some guy at Auto Zone told them so. In something like the J-body or Saturn (the closest personal experience I have to j-bodies) communities, these retards quickly get weeded out because you can't make those cars fast with a JCWhitney catalog, it takes skill, knowledge, and innovation, things that idiots don't possess. Those people quickly realize that they don't know jack and that's when they begin to learn. And therein lies the problem with the DSM community and why I'm so easily aggrivated by it's members. Any retard with a sawzall, duct tape, and a boost controler can put a DSM in the 13's and suddenly proclaim themself a god and start calling everyone slower than them ricers, even though there are many cases in which those "slower" people actually put a lot more thought and effort into their cars. Taking a 16.5 stock N/A car and making it run 14's is a lot harder than taking any factory turbo car and throwing on a Home Depot bleed valve and making it run 13's. Ok.... /rant
Cliff Notes: I agree with the guy above me. I dislike (the very accurate) stereotypical DSMers and anyone else that's ignorant and arrogant.
Thanks for the welcome everyone.

Hey awdstylez, the 96 GSX on your "sig" is an Eclips right? I love those cars, thats what I wanted to buy when I bought my Sunfire. I work with a guy that had a black one (everything you could literally think of done to it). Supossably it dipped into the the low 11's with the nitrouse on, I don't know how true that is, but I looked over the car really well, and I'm sure it at least ran 12's. He sold it for around 13 grand to some guy (paid 8 grand for it). He says he bought it from some guy (I think his cousin) in Chicago. It sounds alot like your car, I still can't believe he sold it, I would have been burried in the thing if it where mine.
Yes it's an Eclipse. Slow, ugly, and unreliable. It's fun when it's running right, but unfortunately that isn't too often. At the moment I'm having rediculous pre-turbo exhaust leak problems that even after $150 worth of manifold resurfacing, I still can't seem to get rid of. Huge leaks and slow spool FTL. It just seems like I put so much into the car and it never gives me anything back, no cooperation, never lets something just go right for once. It's always more difficult than it should be and there's always a problem with something.
Full bolt ons and spray could very well have gone 11's on your buddy's car. I don't have an rediculous mods to my car (still on stock cams, intake manifold, etc. all that big stuff) and I was able to turn the boost down to run the time in my sig, so I don't doubt that with a 50 shot (which people dyno all the time to give 100+whp) he went at least mid 11's in a fully modded car.

I guess everything in the car was replaced, pistons, crank, I mean everything. It had a venom Nitrouse kit on it, and I think the only thing stock on the car was the block. He told me the guy he bought it from said he ran a 10.4 1/4 mile at the strip once, I thought he was full of it, but maybee he wasn't. I'm suprised your having soo many problems, 4G63 Mitsy engines are supposed to be bullet proof and take to modds really well, but I guess everyone can have bad luck.
yea those cars are known to break alot. my buddy had a 97 gsx w/ a fully built motor. it gave him nothing put problems

The engines are bullet proof (knock on wood). It's everything else on the car that breaks.
