How does traction control work?

Something I never quite figured out... so when you have alot of snow on the ground how are you supposed to drive with Traction control? It seems like it does more trouble for me than what its worth, as I"m used to driving without it. In my grand am I always turned it off, but in my Cav I can't turn it off. I just know when I'm trying to get the wheels spinning and get some momentum building the trac control is shutting off the fuel injectors and making it impossible for my car to take off!

My only assumption is you were just supposed to pretend that the road's completly clear and keep your foot on the pedal just like you normally would... but that almost threw me into a ditch on the way home! Seriously how are you supposed to drive with it ?

Put it in either first or second, the trac turns off.

I don't like it either. I need to look into the Sunfire wiring stuff since I believe they are wired to turn off the trac.

Maybe they just made this system for Rain then. Anyway is there a button somewhere I'm not seeing? My grand am had a gigantic "Trac" button next to the Hazzard switch that turned it off.
