i have a stock 98 cavalier, with a 2200 sfi 2.2L. im wanting to swap with a 3800 series II supercharged v6, and was wondering, if i have an exhaust system for my stock engine, will it fit onto he 3800?
if you're going to go through all the trouble of swapping in a 3800 s/c engine, you're better off getting an exhaust system to meet the needs of that engine, not your little 2.2l.
Yeah I'm thinking that exhaust will be pretty low on your list of headaches if you are serious about swapping that engine in.

He's a very new newb, and 17. I doubt he even knows where to begin on such a swap. Besides, to answer the question, the 3.8 V6 has a pair of 3 port headers, and stock diameter is 2.25 or 2.50". Your stock 1.75 will not work at all. And REDGOTE is right, your exhaust will be the least of your problems. Your motor mounts, subframe, harness, fuel, Hood clearance, are just a few other issues your gonna face.
Just because he is a newb and 17 doesn't mean that he is stupid. If you have nothing good to say the STFU. First he needs to worry about fitment with the headers. Then the motor mounts and subframe. Hood clearence I am thinking may be a non issue. Now the engine bay might not accommodate the v6, that I am not sure on.

1) Listen to your own advice, If you cant be nice STFU.
2) Dont give false info, The 3800 Series II SC does fit in the engine bay. Its tight but it does fit. Becuase of the Super charger, the hood closes but barely, and if you want to put the plastic cover on that says 3800 series II, then the hood wont shut.
3) I didnt call him stupid, but the 3800 SC is one of the hardest swaps you can do, less the V8. If your thinking about putting your stock 2200 exhaust sytem on the 3.8, you obviously havent done your research as to whats involved.
If you need proof 05 cav, look up Raven and every other 3800 sc swap thread.
the reason i got on this forum is because i just decided to keep the cavalier instead of going through the trouble of getting a new car, and i actually want to go somewhere with this car, not just become another domestic ricer. if the 3800 engine is to much trouble, what would be a better choice?
well its alot of work and much more than any other swap. you'll need the following
motor (of course)
mounts
tranny (cavalier getrag tranny work (00+ js have those trannys))
computer has to be flashed
custom flywheel
subframe
and a few other things but those are the main things
if your looking for an easier swap i suggest the 2.4 swap

you can do an eco swap from an 02 and up cavy, or 03 and up sunfire. If you still want to stay in the V6 realm, the 3400 V6 from the grand am is a good choice. You still need to rewire the harness, and do the exhaust work, but other then that, its takes very little to modify and fit in your car. Or you can go down another step to the 3100 v6.
Look up Raven if you want the 3800 sc, or Black ops for the 3400.
Here is the link for black ops page on the 3400:

And here is the org post for the 3800 by raven:

around how much should the 3600 or 3100 cost?
depends. Check the news paper and find a really cheap parts car, or go to a junkyard. The price range is anywhere from $50 to a few grand. It all depends on where you go.
what would be a good start to building a good racing cavalier, reasonably priced of course (i work in 2 garages and have a brother that races ls1, so finding help is pretty easy)
Listen here El fago, your the one that basically said this kid knows nothing. Besides no one here really likes you. You offer lame b/s to people, and if you have not noticed most people just ignore you. And like I said, "I am not sure", going with what this kid wants to do. I was taking in consideration of the headers, and like bagged stated, that is going to be a really tight fit. So here it is El fago, STFU moron, go and stick your head back in the sand.

I suggest you go back to school.

And i was right.
And i dont care if you dont like me, YOU SHOULD STOP GIVING SO MANY PEOPLE FALSE INFO< and then i wont have to kepp correcting you.
to put an end to this little scuffle...
the 3800 supercharged engine WILL fit inside a j-body's engine compartment, but it WILL require a lot of work. some of which has been covered in this thread, but for more details, please do a little research into what needs to be done with any engine swap (mounts, wiring, fabrication, etc). several people have done it, and have posted quite a bit of information as to what all is needed.
otherwise, a 3100 or such engine will fit a little bit easier. if you want to go with that course, again, do as much research as you can. there's been quite a bit of information posted thus far regarding other GM 6 cylinder engines that will fit. search in the performance forum for more threads on the topic.
on another note... this is the NEWBIES FORUM. there are bound to be questions asked that some people might consider stupid. don't forget that there was a time when you didn't know jack about cars either, so be considerate when expressing your answers and opinions here. this is a place for people to learn, not be insulted or picked on for the questions they ask.
