F'n sweet man, congrats.

Funny, I saw a vid today of an 08 civic sedan running a 12.8 na, those @!#$s are so ahead of our J's it aint funny..

Anyway I know you wanted 13's for a while, finally hit it. Did you think you hit it after you crossed the line?

And Brad, sorry, but NA is not "best"

Damn hondas...a completely stock B (with @!#$ty all season tires) with 140bhp (thats around 122whp) ran a 14.8 here the other day.

But definately some sweet times with your car. Pretty impressive for whats done to it, but I'm sure the weight savings is making a huge difference. Keep up the work, and lets see a built motor

Congrats man. I knew you would do it when you posted up your times from Saturday. Where were you running?

Methinks he could get into the 12s with a full N/A build.

whitecavy - I knew it was gonna be close, tach was reading 7000 across the line and its usually around 6900.

matt jollymore - When my car was had just an intake/exhaust I ran a 15.0 on the factory tires. Problem with the J's is that they are heavier than a civic is, if the J was even 2-300lbs lighter it would make the world of a difference. As for the weight reduction, my car weights in at 2390, PJ weighted his bone stock Cavalier and it was 2500. A 13.xx from a camed/bolt-on full interior j-body is completely possible.

darren - I was running at Cayuga, we went down for the T&T Saturday afternoon and then back again for CSCS on Sunday.

As for where to go from here I'm not really sure. AMMFAB is going to start production on a 4-1 long tube header soon and I will be receiving the first one, will more than likely buy his ported head as well. I might just leave it at that.....I keep telling myself to stop putting money into this car, but I just love it so much I can't stop. I really need to buy a house soon tho so that will be taking priority soon over the car.

Thanks again for the comments guys. Hopefully inspire a few more ecotec guys to start building some N/A motors and head to the track!

I also wanted to add I will be getting smaller tires for next year. I'm currently running the equivalent of a 25" tall tire (stock J-body size) and from what I think they are much to tall for an All-Motor car. I had to launch at 6000 - 6500 rpm all weekend or the car would seem to bog out off the line, but the catch is I still get a fair amount of wheel spin at that RPM. Going to do that math but I'm thinking a 22.5" or 23" tire might be much better suited for the car.

One or two runs in eliminations I got that great velcro sound from the tires...which means the tires where hooking perfect. Problem was they where elimination rounds so I was more focused on watching the tree than what RPM I was launching at..so I'm not really sure what RPM that was. Both those runs I let off before the finish line (so to not break out) and ran a 13.9 @ 95 mph and a 13.9 @ 96 mph. So those runs where more than likely a solid 13.8 had I stuck on the gas.

Wow man - nice times and you're still on a stock head! I don't know if you're hitting 12's n/a, but with an Ammfab head and maybe some more weight reduction, you could be DEEP into the 13's. Congrats!

lol, he'll get 12s guys. just wait. although... it will be hard. it took ben a built motor, 'race car' status and a bunch of goodies to get a 13.4 in his...

Well I'm not sure about running 12's, probably need somewhere in the 250whp range to run a 12.9.....that or A LOT of weight reduction...lol

We will see how next year plays out tho, it would be nice to run a 12.xx with this car....but it probably won't happen on the motor alone.

Congrats!!

Next step is boost? Maybe, possibly, eventually?

That weight seems quite low...none the less your times are impressive..I'm going to weigh my car in the spring and I have a feeling of me being upwards of 2700lbs or more. Its quite obvious to get a 13.xx cammed/bolt on eco with interior but with each extra 100lbs you'd loose a tenth. I'm interested to see what ya can get out the car. Its nice to see some track enthusiasts on here. I never got to the track this year (or even have a running car for that matter) and it was pretty much the worst summer. Anyways, keep up the work. I'll definately be following your car.

Thanks man, keep in mind PJ's car was a absolute base model...not options what so ever, probably why it weighted so little.

Here is a vid of one of my runs (14.0):

Silver Cav is Paul K (also a All-Motor Eco) he ran a best of a 14.0 @ 100 with only stage one cams and bolt-ons.

Black Cav is Mars (supercharged 3400) I think that video is of his best run 11.92 @ 12X

There is an In-Car video of my car as well....my buddy has yet to post it up tho...when he does I'll post it on here.

Let's not forget that as well-designed as the ecotec is, the head just doesn't flow like a honda head. "B" and especially "K"-series heads will probably outflow even a ported eco head in stock form, and the vtec lobes are much more aggressive than even a lot of the ecotec "performance" cams.

But I think the thing that most J-owners ignore, myself having lurked here and there on the JBO for years now, is SEAT TIME. You can build the greatest NA engine in the world in the best set-up chassis, and it'll still be a dog with a n00b driver behind the wheel. Just because its racing in a straight line doesn't mean there isn't a lot of intricacy involved in getting a good E/T. So a lot of the credit for these times goes directly to Newt for racing enough to get good at it. That's a big part of why he's running times like these when similarly modded cars haven't come close before.

^^^ Exactly, the driver mod is one of the best things going, and its only cost the price of admission to the drag strip!!

I've got probably about 500 - 600 passes down the track with this car...and I still get a bit better every time I go out. Not to mention every time you change something you have to re-learn how to drive the car again to some degree.

I started this season running 14.2 with this set-up and I finished running 13.8.....4 tenths from nothing but practice is the best bang for the buck ever! Mind you some of that time had to do with track prep and weather conditions but a lot of it was practice and learning what the car likes.

Last year I could get away with launching at 5000rpm...but with the torque moved higher and the lower rotational mass from deleting the balance shafts, I had to launch at 6000rpm to keep it from bogging out.

Best bet for anyone that wants to actually learn the right way, is to get a log book, write down things like tire pressure, launch rpm, weather for the day and then record the time you ran and your 60 foot.

After trying a few things you will start to see patterns and from there you can fine tune what the car seems to like the best.

I've really been meaning to start the log thing...but for now I just keep that list in my head more or less..lol

.
Thanks tho again guys for the kind words.

i think you can get real deep into the 13's with a fully built motor and p+p head. maybe even the 12's......... what else can you do as far as weight reduction? and any thoughts on nitrous or boost for this car if the all motor thing doesn't entice you so much anymore? or moving onto the next project soon?

Re: 13.8 @ 100 ALL-MOTOR!!!!!!!

I keep wanting to turbo it but All-Motor is just so much fun....boost seems almost too easy.

I will still have the car next year.....worst case I just build the top and end and race it.
