Nice work so far. Should look good!
add in the cutout's from the IF bumper.
nice work sir.
Seems like a lot of work for a stock LS Sport bumper.
Not gonna lie to you, so far, Im seeing nothing impressive at all. You have cut up 4 bumpers, and thats pretty much it.
I hope you actually so something with these, but so far, there is nothing to write home about.
Hes just been busy working and picking up parts from me lol. I get where your going Matt, should look good and dont forget my text I sent ya last night

If I don't need to hack up the lip, it's all yours Mike! I may even just use the lip to make a mold of the cut outs, and cast new ones, that way there is no need to cut it up. I'd rather see it go to you and be used as is.
Sounds awesome Matt. Lemme know what ya want for it or whatever, and Ill kep you updated on that lss when I go to look at it this weekend
So is the 03 IF not happening? I don't get what is going on...
Mike wrote:So is the 03 IF not happening? I don't get what is going on...
Yes, it's happening...I've just decided to use the LSS lip with the cut outs from the IF lip, as opposed to the entire IF lip. The rest of the bumper is still as planned, the center section of the IF, center grill/corner lights will still be spliced into the new bumper.
I really think thats a waist of the importfigher bumper.

Me too...
I thought this was going to complete 2 different bumpers, now I just confused.
Ok, let's see if I can make everyone a little less confused, lol...
The original project was to take the whole bottom half of the import fighter and fuse it to the top half of the 03+ bumper.
What I'm doing now, is basically the same, except I will be using the lip from the 03 lss instead of the import fighter lip. The whole front section of the import fighter (lower grill/fog ligh holes/corner lights) will be used in the bumper. I just like the lss lip a little more than the lip of the IF, so that's what I decided to use that portion of the lss.
Hopefully that clears it up a bit, not really sure how else to describe it. Between tomorrow night and Friday I'm going to start epoxying everything together, so by Friday I should have some pics of everything at least together and as one piece..hopefully I'll have time to blend out all the seams by then, but we'll see.
wanna sell me the lower portion of the If lip? PLEASE !!!

Sorry man, the lip will be going to Mike...but if for whatever reason he decides he doesn't want it, then it's all yours.
Ahh I see. I like the IF 'lip' better. Curious how it turns out. Certainly will be unique.

so mike your backin out right? lol come one man do it !
Not me haha, I think he is talking about Mike from baltimore
oh ... well pass it on ! lol
Ok, got some work done today!!
After some mocking up and aligning things, I didn't like how the LSS lip was going to look with the import fighter, so I decided to go back to plan A, and just do the import fighter fitted to a 03 bumper. (sorry Mike and Azn cav!)
I made the needed cut out in the 03 bumper, then mounted it to the car so I could start reshaping the import fighter around it. I may have to modify the bottom of the crush guard a bit to accomodate the center grill opening of the import fighter..I could bend down the inner lip of the grill cut out, but i think it will look cleaner to just shave the very bottom of the crush guard so everything sits flush.
The IF has a really sharp curve above the grill areas that slopes towards the headlights, where as the 03+ has a more flat ridge, so before I put the IF on the car, I heated the top edge and started pulling the curve out to a flat surface similar to the 03. After that, I slid the IF into/over the 03 and began heating and bending it into place, then chilling it with water to "shock" it into taking the new shape. I had a chance to shape most of the curve under the headlights, and started around the corner lights, though they still have much more heating and bending to bring them to the proper shape.
The driver side of the import fighter needs to be pulled up a little higher, as it is sitting a little crooked right now.
The main object right now was to get the seaming areas of the two bumpers into the same shape, then I'm going to taper down the edges of the two parts before bonding them so they sit flush.
The far ends I cut off for now to give the bumper more flex while I bend it into shape (it was just too rigid the first time I tried shaping it, so I cut out the chunks from the side to take away some of the support). Once the bumper is shaped as needed, I will heat and bend those pieces separately, then epoxy them back in. As it looks now, I may have to heat/bend some plastic sheets to make the difference in the lip as it doesn't quite reach the wheel wells (didnt think it would)..i'll have to see after some more heating and bending, maybe the end of the lip will eventually reach the end, I do still have a decent sized curved on the sides that needs to be flattened out a bit more..
In the next pic, if you look at the tip of the nose above the center grill, you can see how the 03 has a gentle slope down, and the IF has a hard slope up, this is a spot where I still have a lot of heating and bending to do. I should have taken a pic of the two bumpers together before I started heating so you could see how far off the shapes are, but I forgot..oh well, I'm sure everyone has seen enough pics of the two different bumpers to get the idea.
That's where I'm at now, I have a lot more heating and shaping to do before it's ready to bond, but it's some progress!
C&C please!

Yeah, I was debating moving it up a bit, but I want the the lip to line up with the GMX sides, and that's where it lines up...though I may still play around with it a bit.
please make sure you keep the lip level to the group all the way around. no sloped like it is in the pictures.

You should re-read the update bud...I pointed out that it is sitting crooked right now and has to be adjusted. Right now my concern is getting the shapes of the bonding locations to be the same.
