A lot of the "grit" you see in the pics, at least of the hood and pillar covers, is the pearl that was just sprayed...I took pics about 2 minutes after laying the pearl mid coat, with no top coat yet.
Plus, I'll be the first one to admit it's obviously not paint booth quality...but it's not going to be when you only have a few days in a garage to do a top to bottom paint job. Room temps weren't always as high as what I would have liked them to be, garages are obviously going to be prone to dust and particles in the air, etc...
Overall I think it turned out pretty good considering the time frame we had, and the set backs we found (i.e. the quarter panel from hell).
same car just relocated

looking good man.... i wish i could do body work and stuff my self... i'd never try it....
gas filler relocation looks great!
cant wait to have everything i have piling up in my room painted!
This is Qwibby on Steve's comp:
First impression are that I am stoked, everything came out color wise exactly as I wanted it.
I expected things to not be perfect and honestly despite the dust issues everything is better then I expected. I am very pleased with how everything came out. The QP was really FUBAR so they is some waviness where we put in a filler plate. We'll need to cut out a big section of QP out of a JY and re-weld in a whole new piece for that section. As most of you know, I am NOT out to win any car shows... I love the paint, Matt and Steve did a great job with everything. The relocate I am very happy with as well as where I had rocker rot....
Now it's time to save for my atomic hot side kit (i only need a few hundred)
w00t!!!
Second note - we'll be here all night and tomorrow so if anyone wants to come over, head on in!

Ugh, what did Steve do, cause when I was there and from what I heard, he didn't really do much? lol...Matt is the one who painted pretty much all those pieces, at least when I was there & was watching him do it...
idk maybe lend me his garage for 10 days?
Most of the car needs repainted anyway, people being careless when the paint was wet on drivers door and QP so now I have bloches. Trunk and roof need it, but matt already stated that. We'll do it week to week 1 or 2 panels at a time... The biggest plus is that 99% of the rust is fixed and we took care of other problems, now, it's just some quick remedy'ing and it'll be back 100%
Although now I remember why QBE went all go after I @!#$ with the whole kit scene...
but car looks tits with everything ok and one color lol

So.. pics of it all finished
z28guy(KGM BEOTCH)
it's really coming together. i can't wait to see finished pics. you've got a great group of friends there Phil. on a side note, that quarter panel from hell must have been where he got hit, thus the reason for the color change on the car. i remember that car when it had galaxies airbrushed on it. hope to see the car at the bash this year

Yeah that quarter was definitely hit...once we removed the 15lbs of bondo that was covering it and got to bare metal, you could see all the welds from the stud puller..they never did quite pull out the panel all the way, just caked on about a half inch of bondo and shaped that into a quarter panel, lol.
b efore anyone says adjust the drivers headlight we tried we have even a new bracket, we do not know why it sits like that

either way it looks hot.. mabe try to adjust your lights?
we tried... its gotta be either the fender, or the little black metal cage the head light sits in. I'm fixing it piece by piece. It looks better if I had the crush guard on the steel, cause I don't so the bumper sags

Keep up the good work dude!
Love the time and work that went into it. Just can't for the life of me like the flat look on the car.
Looks unfinished. Just My opinion.
