Quit teasing us with bumps LOL
Well...I've decided to can the project all together with....I just don't have the time any longer to get things done, so the car is off to the junkers in the morning. It's in no current shape to sell, and I'm not going to finish it any longer...
Okay....so I lied...
I didn't get much done the other day like I had hoped to...but today I got a good few hours in once again

.
I've been focusing a lot on lining up the center console with the dashboard, making clean parting lines. I'm very pleased with how it's coming along.
^ notice I had some good use out of my cup holder
I then began working on the dvd/360 area, adding filler and sanding it smooth as well.
I got the bulk of it done, I just need to tape off the back of the console and the flooring so I can add some filler to make some clean parting lines.
Between the curing stages for my filler I decided to see what the cluster would look like in black:
Well I liked it, but I my intentions weren't to keep it in black. The black is just one of the steps needed before I add my carbon fiber...
Starting Monday, I took off a week at work to use up the rest of my vacation time before the new year. Hopefully I'll be able to spend a good amount of time working on the car with my free time.
I'll get those pics coming as the progress continues.
Hmmmm. Carbon fiber......
You have a PM.
very nice work vince keep it up you are a customizing god!
I get first dibs on this interior when you decide to change it !!!!!
Looks fantastic... One question though... does your ebrake hit the stereo at the bottom when fully released?? Looks like it would.
^ nope, it doesn't.
Well after 3 coats of epoxy resin, I was able to clean up the edges on the cluster today.
These cluster has not been sanded smooth yet, however it's pretty damn smooth already
A little bit closer of a pic:
and a shot with the gauges sitting in their new home:
Notice how the gauges actually sit 1/2" recessed and not flush with the cluster...I think it looks better this way. I still need to paint the inside of the gauge openings black, but it came out great so far.
Don't think I'll get any more work done until Monday night/tuesday now...pretty busy this week. I'll get new pics up if I get more work done.
jesus christ that is sweet.
Dude, that looks amazing.
....please see
that pretty much sums it up!
Wow man awesome work that's some sick carbon fiber man! I love it.
looking good vince. first thing i always look at when i see fiberglass pieces is i follow the edges to see how clean they are. that alwasys seperates the decent fiberglasses from the great ones. couple of suggestions since your doing all the work lol.
1. the back end of your center console looks very square. i would suggest mimicking the curve you have on the xbox 360 curves into the backside of your console so it has matching curves, that will help it blend together more when people are looking back there. they just dont match up great right now.
2. is there a way you could get the carbon fiber to wrap into that recess before the gauges? i know those curves on the openings would be a bitch, but would definatly give it a more smoother and clean look. or maybe just do a seperate circle of c/f around it. the edges wouldn't be perfectly matched, but most people wouldnt be able to see that.
just me doing some major nitpicking.

i was goin to say the same thing to have the cf on the inside of the cluster holes.
also, let jason know how you get your gauges working. haha. he's still havin troubles.

lookin badass man. awesome work as always. i agree with jason. i think the console would flow much better with a curve at the end to match the rest. but im sure youll change some things as you see them or as you get ideas. great work none the less. wish i had half the talent man. much props.!

I NEED a 97-99 LD9 engine harness for an auto.PM if u hav info.!!

sooooo what...are you a mind reader or something?....geeze man. haha.
Actually, I just spent an hour this morning cutting out some pvc piping at about 1/3" in length. The small rings I just cut out, go in after the gauges go in and these will be done in c/f. I didn't want to put carbon on the inside area where the gauges recess b/c I wanted to make sure the gauges fit back into place properly.
I'll get some updated shots of what I've been up to this morning before I head into work.
As for the console...I know what you mean, I'll see how things go, but once the seats are installed, you really don't see back there much anyways, so it's not a big concern to me right now. Maybe later on during the build I'll change my mind, however right now it'll be staying that way.
Wish I was in these league with the custom stuff. Amazing to watch the progress ... nice nice ..

i went to him first but apparently in the 2000 and under j's those gauges are a snap. just tie right into the original cluster harness. on 2001 and up. not so easy.

Well little by little, I'm able to make more progress on the car.
Last night at around 1:30am, I decided I may as well start working on the steering column.
This evening I was able to apply my 2nd coating of epoxy.
This is the current stage of my steering column:
I'll give it another coating tonight before bed, and then by tomorrow evening I'll be able to clean up the edges and trim off the excess material.
Tuesday I hope to get a good chunk of work done to the car...After tomorrow I hope to have the passenger side floor done and sanded smooth. I'll get new shots up tomorrow.
Thanks again for the support and feedback everyone, it really keeps me going when I'm not motivated.
damn man those looks great!!. im very tempted to try cf but it kinda scares me. props on you and your greatness lol.

I NEED a 97-99 LD9 engine harness for an auto.PM if u hav info.!!
Let me know how the steering colum cover goes back on. I mean if you have trouble or not I got mine done in cf but the right side does not want to stay clipped in. Its pissing me off
On a side note damn man love the work and the cf looks sweet
What's going on the floor? CF?
I had the very same vision to do a cf cluster like that, looks intense!! good job man
Holy Effffff thats flippin awesome......such great detail
RIP JESSE GERARD.....Youll always be in my thoughts and prayers...
