hey guys its been awhile since i posted anything ne won my car
been too busy to do any work on it , no new carbon fiber yet , hopefully next month ill have some updates on that.
About 2 weeks ago I was on my way to my girl friends house an eighteen wheeler flew past me causing my hood to flip up , and hit my windshield , causing me to swerve off the road into a corn field. It bent the hinges and the hood pins had vibrated out too. So I figure it was time to upgrade to a better hood pin or go back to a factory hood.
I winded up going with the hood pins at
aerocatch
so enough of my balber chatter
here are the pics of the new pins installed and pics of my damaged hood

damage on pass side

drivers side

had to use a dremel to make the pin fit
I was def pissed off when this shat went down
hope you enjoy the new look

Sorry, I don't care if you feel there was no other way, that looks like absolute hack-ass garbage.
Maybe I just have too much pride in my cars but I could not go to sleep at night thinking about that, seriously.
Sorry but you're spending a lot of money on parts, but not doing anything real quality here. Instead of adding to the car why not take that time and money to correct other things?

sorry to say i kinda agree..
i wish you would have taken your time and done things alittle better you have good parts but threw them up cause u got excited.

GOT ECOTEC?
well, could there be way if i make a bracket or a piece that covers it ?
i don't see how that could actually hold your hood down! u should of just gone w/ the old fashion hood PINS!

wow. i revert my comments back to my original comment i posted. what a freekin hackjob. ive hacked things in my day but seriously. that is bad. especially to hack up a carbon fiber hood like that. like said. your adding TONS of nice parts. but every time you add something it is hacked up. and hack after hack looks like @!#$. its just a giant hackjob.

Although I don't really agree with how they've been installed, I've seen these pins before, I think those pins are pretty sweet.
ignore the jibber jabber..
aerocatch pins
I think they're pretty sweet and planned on getting a set for the skwirl so i can eliminate the front hood latch and supporting bracket.
This thread makes baby jesus sad
wow thats pretty bad under the hood. makes me question the strength of that hood now with that big ass hole in the underside. obviously wind will get under the hood, id just hope with that big of a hole, it doesnt get much air between those 2 layers and rip the top layer right off.
Dude its an easy fix....
The bottom of your hood is fiber glass....
Simply glass it all in but the pin hole...use a straw...or mock something up to cover the pin...
Spray it black and call it the night..!
Good choice in pin....just finsh it off...
I have a hard time understanding the hood flying open thing....? Maybe I'm just lucky but I have to travel 80kms everyday on a one
lane highway....rigs passing by me in the other direction often enough.....I have no pins.....and have yet to have had a problem ( knock on wood ).
Don't you have a latch..?
z-spot: I know im gonna get ripped , but with my old pinss i didnt have a latch the shop took it off , so should i have gone back to them be like wtf ?
and thanks i thought about what you said just glass the underneath
well finishing aside....I do worry about the strength that the pin has, it is only grabbing the outter skin. I am not sure that is strong anough to hold the hood down.
Externally they look good, suprisingly for the curved hood. But you REALLY need to finish off the inside, and try to get it a little more structurally sound.
jeffff!!!!!!!!!! i told you ya should have sold me this hood. lol shoulda listened
jk
looks like you had the right idea, i would 2nd what zspot said and glass it in. fiberglass hoods are pretty sturdy even with just the top layer i have a friend with a celica and his hood is held with just two pins by the top layer and it had held up well... not saying nothing bad will happen, just a suggestion to clean it up, and make it atleast re-inforced.
wow that was bad english. eh oh well.
Im just latched too...no problems so far.
well it must just be goodman luck , everything i touch turns to crap
wow look great besides the ripped up e brake boot still awesome none the less I wish I had some carbon fiber interior.
well id like to say a couple things
One Thanks to all that is giving me advice and help

That's exactly what I did on the 'blu.
Once I installed the MoMo hoodpins, tested the hood at speed to see if they'll work by themselves, I took out the entire hood latch assembly and coudn't be happier.
Plus, the weight reduction of removing the parts is always a good thing.
So do it PJ, you can't go wrong.
Oh and I'm not that partial with the above hood pins. Their complexity of install is something that should be left to the professional or with more time to do it right.

Thank you Dave and JBO!

Under the hood is such an easy fix with a little glass, filler and love
