Did you get the block machined at all ? It looks like the engine is still in the car. I've put a few small blocks together and it looks like you never had the cylinders honed with a new cross hatch pattern. You might have problems with the rings breaking in properly.
FYI "Learning experience".....I threw a 350 bottom end together from a running core (new rings and bearings) and never honed the cylinders. We put it in a '64 Nova to race the following week-end and the rings never seated correctly. That thing smoked bad by the end of the week-end and would blow the oil dipstick out every run.

The block never came out of the car. There was still a little cross hatch left, and I ran the honing tool through a couple times just to make it a lil more defined. The pic doesn't show it, but it's there, there was a good coat of oil that reflected the flash quite well.
