true, true.
time for an update, then....
Now keep in mind that I've been having to work around the weather... IDK why, but its more like November than June <shrugs>
As you may or may not know, I’m taking a hiatus from JBO to focus more attention on the Fire so I can get her running… however, its been a couple weeks, and I have some updates to share.
When I last left off, the car kind of looked like this:
June 7:
03+ crush guard came in, so I removed the other one… It was the size of the box that made it upcharged to 64 lbs… being Styrofoam, weight reduction FTW
As did the turn signals (they compliment my LED bulbs nicely)
There was another box, but I’ll save that one for later.
Think I finished mapping out the wiring on the harnesses… I refuse to do that again
Just need to double check it all on paper…
Also ordered the 3400 throttle cable (GM part # 22619740) and an 03+ hood striker.
June 8:
Mmm… Free stereo stuff is nice. Alpine 400w Class D Amp (while yes, this is not part of the engine swap, I promised progress)
Strung the harness to the engine. It appears that in 2002, a couple things may have changed… hmm… EGR valve plug is different (99-2001 is the same, 2002+ is different). I’m missing a couple plugs as well. Looks like I get to add that to my harness and just hardwire the f-er’s in in stead of chasing back the wires)
Ordered 2k3 headlights
Worked more on the paper verification process on the harness.
June 9:
Put the harness on hold for a day (rain = ick)
Started a new speaker box (ditching the dual subs for a single for now), ran out of MDF though (cut all the pieces for one, but it didn’t fit (too tall)… so I’m going to finish it up and sell it… 1.7 cubic foot ported)
And an amp rack (still need a ½” plexi piece and a filler for the rear part)
Need to secure the rack and get some carpeting for it.
After everything is done on paper with the harness, I have to run the wires from here:
To here:
June 10:
More work on the harness… no pics
June 11-15:
Finished up extending the harness
My heat gun grew legs and walked away. I have 70 or so wires (I lost track) that I need to heatshrink and no heat gun.
Here’s what’s left of my donor harness when I got done
Next up, start splicing in the J C100 connector and splicing in the extension to the existing 3400 harness.
June 16:
ID’d the following wires that need to be spliced:
Working on the last bits, then triple check time
June 18:
I dub thee the FrankenFire
Now we’re talking mistaken identities here… 03+ front, 97 rear and a 3400 under the hood
June 19
Went and picked up the 03 Fire grilles (sorry, no pic… yet)
Also started on the harness extension part
First though, these 2 made sure that I was entertained for the 5 hours that I was working on the 1 plug extension:
Actually 5 hours, 41 minutes, but who’s counting….
And a test fit:
Oops. Too long, but that’s coo. I’d rather have it be too long than too short

(insert dirty innuendo here)
I really gotta find that heat gun now…
June 20:
Harness extension pt 2 done. Found the heat gun too

. Took me 3 hours for this part (had a groove thing going)
Had a couple extra wires in the 2k2 harness… I’ll ID those later.
Here’s a better shot of the LED bulb in the turn housing as well
I'm planning on having the wiring done this weekend, then aside from a couple "small" parts, she's ready to crank over...
if I don't have a list I go all willy-nilly and can't get one thing done before starting on another
Here's what I need to finish before I crank her over:
4) Remove 2.2 throttle cable (read: grab and yank) and install 3400 throttle cable <-- meh. GMPD is taking their sweet time on this part.
5) Install diff insert
6) put trans back together and install, reinstall CV axles <-- depends on how long 5 takes
6) Remove dash, instrument cluster, tear apart IC and install new gauges <-- want the car off jackstands first, meaning need to finish 5 & 6
7) rebend AC lines <-- same
8 ) make new PS lines <-- same
8a) Order dual cooling fan (junkyard special) <-- I'm gonna see how long I can get away w/ 1 fan
9) extend Evap tank vacuum line <-- trip to hardware store
10) install downpipe, cut back existing exhaust and get a temporary exhaust pipe (one of those bendy ones) <-- need trans in first so I can route the shift cables
12) drink beer <-- all the time
13) top off all fluids, install battery, turn key and cross fingers *note* get vid camera ready <-- sometime after the trans goes in
19) drink more beer <-- whee
20) Success
So that’s it for now… I’ll check back with more
