Welp the time has come for me to finally get my interior done.
I think it's been about a year and a half in planning and it all comes down to 22 days, lol. The 24th we are having a JBNW meet in Missoula, MT and my goal is to have it all done by then.

It's taken me, o, prolly about a year to learn how to sand correctly, lol. When I first went to do my interior I started sanding on the panels with like 320 grit and ended with like 1500, which if you can imagine, basically just smoothed the tops of bumps of the texture. Then I would go over it with filler primer and wonder why it took so much. I think for one rear panel I used like 2.5 cans of duplicolor filler primer.
I have now learned to start with much lower grit and my last should be 320. I now start with 60, then 100, 220, and finally 320.

Here is what all has to be done...
Sand down interior
Prime interior
Paint interior
Install carputer
Install carputer screen
Make windows work with delayed accessory power
Install fuse block in trunk
Install cold cathodes
Finish trunk setup (HERE)

Carpet sub box
Floor the false floor
Carpet floor
Install cold cathodes
Finish amp rack/box
Build fascia wall

Install new alarm (Viper 5900 SST)
Fix wiring from old alarm (which will be part of new alarm)
Install interior and exterior mini piezo sirens
Run signal and power and speaker wire
Install new 6.5 components
Get windows tinted
I'm sure I'm forgetting something but who knows.

Anyways, this is Photos and Media so I better show some pics.
These are what pieces I have sanded already.

First off, this is by far the best way to store sandpaper. Makes it soooo much easier to find what you are looking for. And then, the sheets I use, I make them into quarter sheets and 3M 77 Glue um together to make 1 quarter sheet with grit on each side and then cut rounded corners.

Seatbelt trim pieces


Glove box door (still have to remove internals and sand under the handle)


Somewhere in here is my thresholds and rear panels. You can see part of my new dash.


My fuse block in case anyone was wondering.


Hopefully by making this thread I'll have more motivation to get it done.

My goal for tomorrow is to clean downstairs (as seen above) to find my thresholds and rear pieces. I have to start over and remove the primer off one threshold and a rear piece so I want to at least get through both thresholds and one rear piece. I also plan to drill holes in the case for the wires for my carputer and get that all figured out.

I've never had trouble sanding. Guess I'm just used to it since its part of my job lol. What kind of paint are you gonna be using and what color??

Been there with the sanding, primer and painting...I have well over 150 hours of sanding time alone on my interior!!

Ya, I had never had experience so I was kinda dumb with it, lol. I wanted to use car paint but I don't have the tools to do it so I'll be spray bombin it. I'll prolly use dupli-color of some sort and i'm still deciding on a color. It's either gonna be 2 tone silver and black, 2 tone silver and gunmetal, or all gunmetal.

Thanks, your interior is by far my biggest inspiration to doing this. Your two tone is what made me want to do black and silver but i'm still unsure about the final color.

Well since you're spray bombing it I'm gonna recommend Krylon over Duplicolor. I've used Duplicolor on my interior before in the past and the results weren't half as nice as pieces I've done with Krylon.
I just finished respraying some of my interior yesterday (spray gun and PPG paint). Here's how mine turned out:

your going to go through all of this work to spray bomb it? Atleast use some PPG Omni, that @!#$ is dirt cheap compared to other polyurethanes, and it lays down nice too.

Nice. With the krylon, did you just do primer, krylon, clear or...??? Also, what clear did you use.

I want to but I don't have the equipment to spray it with.

I got the basement cleaned and the 2 thresholds done. I'll have some pics later tonight but I am just about to head out and check out a place that paints just about everything and see how much they would want to paint everything (with car paint).

Yeah I primed, then sprayed with the Krylon paint, then I think I used a can of Krylon clear. The pic I posted above was of a piece done with PPG paint and a good spray gun.

My goals for today were...

Wow, this sight is quite discouraging. Makes the amount of sanding I have to do seem REALLY big and I am NOT looking forward to those door panels.

I know it doesn't show much, lol, but I did the thresholds. They were a pain for some reason.



I didn't get the rear piece done like I planned. Those took me 2 hours and the computer took longer than I thought.


3. drill holes in the case for the wires for my carputer and get that all figured out.

Looks messy but it looks a lot better than it did, plus, the wires lay much nicer-they're all zip tied. I got the fan mounted and a hole for the fan and for the cathode wire drilled. I still have to drill a hole for the power, rca, vga, etc. I had to quit early cause I found the mosquitoes come out at 9.


If anyone was wondering what I meant by the sandpaper gluing..

Interiors can be a bitch man. So far I've got my dash painted, aside from the top piece and lower half, the headliner and visors, rear deck lid, thresholds, a-pillars w/ triple gauge pod, and racing steering wheel. The backseat side panels are primed and ready for paint, I have an 04 console to swap in, gotta paint that still. And finally I have to learn how to fiberglass so I can mount 6.5" Alpine TypeR's in the door panels and paint them as well. It's a very teedius process. Good luck on your deadline bro

Ya. Crap, you reminded me that I need to find a way to do my visors. I tried fabric dye but that didn't work too well. I couldn't get the mirror masked off well enough and it bled thru so I still have to figure something to do.
I have to mount Type-R 6.5's too. I'm gonna try to do it in the stock hole and behind the door panel but we'll see if that's gonna work, lol.

Today I got the final holes cut for the carputer and a couple layers of primer and black krylon on it. Tomorrow I'll trim it, get another layer black, decide if I want to clear it or not, and then reinstall everything.
I didn't get the A-Pillars sanded but to be honest, I didn't think I would. I did know that if I did get done with the carputer and didn't have something planned I'd just sit there.

Cash and deposit paycheck, lol
Trim the carputer case, spray another layer black, decide if I want to clear it or not, and then reinstall everything.
Sand the a-pillars
Buy epoxy and fix broken door panel (i assume thats the best thing to use)
Call Corbeau seats and see if they sell fabric
Go to PaintAll and see how much they would want to paint interior pieces/sub box
Shop/Buy 8/4ga wire and inline fuse for fuse block to be added
Go color shopping and find a color I want to use
Call tinter and see when he has open times
Find steering wheel puller

If I get that all done, I'll sand on some more pieces. Prolly the rear pieces.

Also tonight at work I'll make a calender basically outlining what needs to be done by when to get everything done.

I prolly won't have pics tonight; I'm gonna head to bed right after work so I can get a mildly early start instead of Noon like the past few days, lol.

You just gotta tape off the entire mirror man, I just did mine a couple days ago. I used Duplicolor Vinyl/Fabric for the visors and Duplicolor vinyl/fabric Red for the mirrors. The only probly I had was the mirrors stuck to the headliner. Paint didn't transfer but now the mirrors are kinda fuzzy I can post pics of mine if you'd like.

I'll give it another shot with my other one and see what happens. I used some index cards to stick between the plastic and the mirror and if I remember right, that's what bled through. That along with my impatience which led to a crappy, fingerprinted clear, lol.

for the visors just take them apart.. thats what i did.. then all i had to do was mask off the mirrors for when i painted the plastic they were attached too. There easy to take apart. pull the staple holding the elastic strap/the 2 halfs of the mirror together.. then i just took my larger pokcet knife, slid between the 2 halves and twisted to pull the peices apart. Took the arm and mirror out then in my case rewrapped them, you just gotta spread it out and dye them. then i used some LocTite Handyman's All Purpose Adhesive to join the two peices back together. worked wonderfully.

I am REALLY not looking forward to the door panels. They are going to be a BITCH to sand and paint.

Friday, Saturday, Sunday look good weather wise for painting and we'll see if I'm ready to dye my top dash and arm rest.

I'm shooting to have everything sanded and primed by saturday and then that next week I'm gonna have to haul ass and get everything painted and finish my trunk panels so I can get those covered and everything and then that'll leave me a week or prolly at least 5 days (hopefully) to install everything including eDead, running wires, getting my Type-R's to fit, installing new alarm, installing alarm goodies, etc. and then I should be good for the 23rd. The only thing left unchanged will be the seats which'll be funny cause they're beige. Eventually I want Corbeau seats.

your going to be late, hate to say it just the way i see how it is going to work out. a week maybe two late. unless you use every spare min you have on it.

It's gonna be close, I have no question about that. Right now it's not the time that I'm really worried about, but rather the money that I have left.
