id would personally wrap it in a piece of t-shirt and pull back behind the edge and fill from there.... your gonna prolly run into problems with laying filler first. and definately drill alot of holes. my first project i didnt do that and the fiberglass seperated from the plastic rather quickly.

I thought there is only fiberlgass cloth and mat? I have both of them, and i know i do not have the right finishing body filler yet. The stuff i do have it just being used to form a molded base like i have said previously.

there is olny cloth and mat but i ment bondo brand stuff, normally everyone here clowns on people for using it.

Why, because it's easy to find locally, as in Wal-Mart or Autozone?

^^^because the products themselves are crappy... they have a much bigger tendency to shrink and warp than say US Composites or Evercoat products.

but i cant say anything, I use bondo brand when im in a time crunch

but i dont suggest it as your only alternative

as in durring curing as well as upto 3 days after depending on climate

but like i said, i use bondo in a pinch and its not bad for small projects like this

Yes i know about sanding, but between my dremel with sanding bits and my palm sander, was a piece of cake...

Also i was going to keep the cig lighter, but then i said nahhh.....











I have my work's x-mas party in a couple hours so this is all i could get done for the day. I have to smooth out a few more area's and then go on a hole drilling spree. Before i put the fiberglass filler down, I also drilled some holes around the whole thing and ruff the @!#$ out of everything i possibly could with 80 grit sand paper.

looking better. i hope you used the light weight filler, otherwise that thing will weigh a ton (as im sure youre aware). beyond that, i would suggest a DA sander....those things are worth their weight in gold. keep it up though...i wanna see more pics soon.

Nity9CavSedanCRJ -- that looks pretty good. what gauges are you going to put in there? air ride, boost??????

Streaker- Well once i finish this one up, i am going to mold a single pod into the steering colum cover aswell. This summer I am going to be running nitrous to have a little fun. So in the end, I am going to be having 7 gauges throughout the whole car. Currently i have a 2 1/16th tach which i am going to be putting on the steering colum pod, a narrow band a/f, and volts. The remaing 4 are going to be Nitrous pressure, Fuel Pressure, Vacuum, and oil pressure. Then i also have on the way 10 - 5 angle super bright leds comming to make the gauges an iredesant blue along with my gauge cluster. Then # 74 leds to do the HVAC blubs.

After this i am going to sand her down and give her one more layer, sand again, then i got some different body filler this time around... Still bondo brand but the premium version since i couldn't get the evercoat without travleing 20 miles to a body shop supply store.

I realized tonight that one of the mounting brackets had been busted off somehow, not by me. It the one by the driver side vent. So I am currently in the process of trying to figure out how I am going to make another one, Right now i built like 3 layers of glass up and am letting that harden and going to see if that will do what i need for it to do... Other than that... Just got to sand everything down, spread some body filler and fix any high spots, primer, sand, paint... done ski!

No its not too bad... I just wish I had more time to work on it thats all. I'm a nit picky person so i have spent alot of time sanding to make sure there are zero high spots in the top layer of resin. I'm at the point where i just need to sand down the area where i made the new little bracket and then sand the entire bezel so the primer adhere's and dosn't have the normal texture. Break out the new body filler i bought... From what i was told its comparable to evercoats low grade filler... lol. I really didn't feel like driving 20 miles to pick up evercoat from a body shop supply store.











I'm off to Seattle washington tomorrow morning till jan 2nd, so finishing this up is going to have to wait till i come back. But so far i am liking what i am seeing.

dont spend so much time sanding the fiberglass. it takes way to long. just lay it flat, let it dry then spread a very thing layer of filler i like rage gold by evercoat, it spreads allot thinner then bondo brand and is easier to sand. doest look to bad, i personally wouldnt have used so much filler building it up. i prefer to keep filler to 1/4" or less build up. i would have also tried to recess the gauges so they didnt stick out so far. but what your doing doesnt look to bad up to this point.



im also one that doesnt like the bondo brand but just as easy said, ive also been known to use it when i need it quickly.
