Bent rim...suggestions needed

I hit a nasty hole right before winter last year. It is an alluminun Konig rim. I am about ready to get my winter wheels off when I get my tax return to fix the wheel. It slit the side of the tire and I know I have to get a new tire for it, but does anybody know what I can do about the bent rim. I don't know if anybody knows of a place that can bend it back so it won't leak or something like that. I didn't know if it was possible to tube a low pro or not either. Any suggestions would help. Thanks in advance.

you MAY be able to get it fixed if it is just a bend. if the structural integrity of the rim is still good, a really good company may be able to fix it, but it involves more than bending it back.

the aluminum wil be too weak to bend back and more than likely, you will crak the weld if you do.

there are to places i know of in ontario that may be able to help you, if you are in the area.

the first: Carcone.com

the second: Newmarket Tire N Mag

both do wheel refinishing and might be able to help you. as far as i know, it runs about $100 CDN a wheel. Carcone has some details about the steps they go through on refinishing a wheel, see if fixing this will apply.

personally, i would just replace it. if the structural integrity is shot, even if it is repaired, it may still be a weak spot on the rim. a weak spot can be dangerous, and thats not worth risking your life for.

to slove most of these dilemas in the future, keep your tires inflated to what they shold be at.

Injection is nice but id rather be BLOWN!

I bent one of my rims last year and when I finally took them off to put on my winters my Grandpa insisted I let him give a shot at bending it back. After a few whacks of a sledge onto a strategicly placed block of wood my rim is remarkibly better. He wants to get a lead or copper hammer and try to finish it off when he come back from FL.....anyhow I guess what I meant to say is, that it is entirely possible to bend that back, just gotta gut it up and have someone try I guess. Good luck!

unfortunately aluminum rims are basically shot when they get bent. Best bet is to buy a replacement.
