Wheel weights...on inside of rim only?
Monday, March 06, 2006 5:29 PM
I am wondering if it is possible to achieve a adequate balance in my stock 16" chrome wheel with putting the wheel weights on the inner side of the rim only?

Will this work? Has it been done before, will I run into problems? I want the rims and wheels to have a full static and dynamic balance without the wheel weight showing on the outside of the rim(Rim face people see!).

Yes I have done a search, but no adequate results found,

They can do it. Just let them know when tey balance them you want them on the inside of the wheel, I'm pretty sure most people with aftermarket wheels do this.

if you go to a place that is really talented, they can do a "split spoke balance". atleast thats what i have heard it called.

its when you mount the stick on weights on the inside of the rim only behind the spokes, so you dont see anything at all.

i have yet to try that at my work, seeing as i havent had anyone want it done yet.

Injection is nice but id rather be BLOWN!

You can do a static balance with just putting a clamp-on wheel weight on the inner lip. Both my cavs and my Blazer are balanced that way. I just took my cav on a trip and did hit the fuel cutoff coming down a pass and the car never shook.

your lucky zsquee24...
that is a crappy and lazy way to balance wheels, and i never do it at work.

static balance is a waste of time and a vehicle will ride better with a proper dynamic balance. im surprized you dont notice it with your cav, but i expect your blazer rides like a tank anyways.

thats how my rims were balanced. i got them from tires.com and had them shipped to a local store. when recieved, they weren't balanced right. the store did the balance and put the weights directly behind the spoke (no on the spoke, but behind it). so you can't hardly see them at all unless you're on your hands and knees looking at an angle.

GO PATS!!!

Those stick on weights...will they fly off at high speeds? Or maybe when you hit a big bump in the road?

No they wont rip off at high speeds. 99% of aftermarker wheels have tape weights on them. I work at Belle Tire and when we do custom wheel we only use tape weights for them. U can static balance them if u want but if u tape weight behind the spoke and then tak a weight on the inner lip that will give u more of a TRUE balance then just a static balance.. Was gunna say if u lived near Grand rapids i could do that for u really cheap. but ur by Ann Arbor =(
