which charger?(GM or RSM)
Friday, September 02, 2005 3:43 PM
right now I am confused about which one is better. I look at both kits and see that 10 psi is what I could be getting but then i also look at the price. which one is better for our cars? if i am correct our cars put down 130 stock right? so with 10 psi i should see 100 hp gain or that's just a rough estimate? but if both kits are giving the same amount of boost, why is RSM's kit so much more? there's probably a post about this already but i couldnt find it. any help with solving this problem will be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance

well, you'll need a few mods to get the gm s/c to run 10 psi safely

put it this way:
The gm s/c is good for reliability, starting out with 5 psi or so.
The rsm s/c is good for making a little more power.

If power is your big question, go rsm.

Water injection (~200). High flow oil pump is good too since 2.4's have oil starvation issues up top. Others will tell you fuel pump / fpr. I dont have either.

My vote goes to RSM

so your saying off the back if i get RSM 's blower i will see 10 psi and get those gains that i mentioned? Or Go GM blower with the 2.5 pulley and hope to see those kinds of gains? i dont remember where i saw it but, I saw someone posting saying that the GM blower gets heat soaked quick? if that's the case then I need some sort of injection system too right to keep 10 psi on a constant basis? does the RSM blower get heat soaked quickly too or it will last a little longer? So let's see, 4900 for stage 2 plus shipping and handling plus install. I dont know how much the GM blower costs but i know it's cheaper, plus 2.5 pulley, plus some kind of injection system, plus shipping and handling, plus install. I am still stuck.

honestly, for a GOOD 3000 bucks or so, you could have a GOOD (good is relative i guess) turbo system that will push those 10 psi.

i have been told that but, for some reason i dont want to be turboed. maybe because i just bought a header and if i go turbo i would have to take off the header.

I say go for the GM kit with alcohol injection and a 2.6" or 2.5" pulley.. no RSM s/c will put down that much power... as i dont think they have new pulleys for theirs yet... plus you get the reflash, injectors and every thing you need... and later if you want to go turbo it is SOOOO easy since your fuel is taken care of already.... I mean i love the RSM one too and have nothing against it but i would say go GM s/c.

Plus ever race i have seen with e GM s/c'd car against a RSM s/c'd car the GM one always won.

No. Adding more power to the engine does absolutely nothing to make the car any better able to handle those speeds.

RSM is probably so much because look how big GM is... they can easly sell their kits for cheeper. thats just my guess... And yes the speed govenor is still there.

The GM kit isn't so cheap because "GM is huge and can afford it". It's cheap because nobody paid what GM wanted so they cancelled the program and are selling off what's left for cheap to get rid of them.

GM originally wanted around triple what they're now selling for. It's not that RSM is selling for too much. GM is taking a big loss just to get rid of them.

For reference, go look up how much just the Vortech blower that comes with the RSM kit costs on it's own.

Yea i guess that is true... and a company like GM can still aford to take that kind of a loss... And i know just the s/c from vortec is about $1950 US i believe
