i just noticed today that my wastegate is opening a little to early. it will slightly open at around 10 psi. the boost controller is a turbosmart manual boost controller, it is about a year and a half old. i just want to verify that this is most likely the cause. i can hear it open slightly at 10psi and then fully open at 20psi. i know for a fact it is opening at these times because it is a open dump. is there any other likely causes for this?
running rich? turn the boost up
It isn't the boost controller unless the wastegate spring pressure is less than 10 pounds.
This always happens with small springs and higher pressures. Only way to help is to use a EBC. You can then controll exactly when the wastegate opens.

i bought the wastegate used, it is a turbonetics evolution i want to say, and if i recall correctly, it has a yellow spring in it
do you think i should runner a bigger spring in my wastegate? i really dont want to run a electronic boost controller because 2 of my friends on seperate occasions had there ebc's not open and overboost and BOOM! granted, they are not the smartest of my friends nor had i seen how it was set up but i dont want to risk it.

JMarks is correct. As far as your friends situations with EBC, sounds like they were not set up properly, a vac line melted, or were getting greedy.....
