nhra wouldn't let me run...
Wednesday, August 06, 2008 9:57 AM
Got yelled at the local NHRA track route 66...

Pulled me from the staging lanes to re-inspect the car...

Almost got sent home for no turbo blanket.

Turbo Blanket?

SFI 16.2 approved turbo blanket?

All non OEM turbo vehicles have to have one...

WTF?

So lemme make sure I understand this...

The 600whp evo doesn't need one but...

the 200whp cavalier does. Tell me this makes any sense at all.

The last rule change I'm aware of that effects aftermarket turbo's, superchargers, and nitrous is you have to wear a single layer fire jacket on your person.

ahaha good thing no track officials ever thing i have a turbo on the car then ... they see the supercharger and just call it good from there

this is old news guys... it went into effect in either 05 or 06

non OEM turbo cars need engine diapers. it came from all the idiots who could weld or ghetto rig a turbo onto a car, but not tune it or otherwise modify the remaining systems properly to support the extra airflow.

OEM turbo cars would probably come under fire depending on their ET. I'm pretty sure they get a little more strict on cars that dip into 11s even if the turbo is OEM.

Some tracks enforce it, some don't. Depends on how strict they decide on being. Bigger tracks usually do it because they get tired of cleaning up oil downs and broken bottom ends constantly.. makes it a better track for everyone.

you have no idea how much it pisses me off when some jalopy goes down the track and pukes its guts all over the track. 2 hours of waiting, plus that lane is most likely not going to hook all that great the remainder of the night.

the fire jacket is probably from people having fuel lines fly off and start fires and what not.

So you were out there last night eh?

I went out and ran the white cav NA finally....I told him the motor was stock just to avoid problems, Basically it is...stock rocker ratio is 1.6 and stock compression is 8.85:1 so....stock rebuild?

But PJ makes a good point, nothing more frustrating then a messed track because someone hacked their @!#$ up. I would feel horrible if someone wrecked their car or hell even ALMOST wrecked their race car because MY motor let go and laid something down.

I guess I better get a turbo blanket once that goes on :-(

hmmmm BBR CAV...

my screen name is Black Bird Rracing

nope no clue who that could be...

Was having traction issues and it was an embarrasment...

They told me if I broke a 13.99 I would go home due to the turbo shield...
I googled and couldn't find @!#$ on a turbo shield/blanket other than for heat.

I held the boost down to 6 instead of 12.

Still Ran a 14.0, there he was shaking his finger at me...

certainly never heard the turbo blanket rule. All the tracks near me are NHRA and they have NEVER said anything about a turbo blanket. Fire jacket for sure but not a turbo blanket. Have to see what they say next time i go there. I really dont wanna buy one.......

So I heard. It actually was not you that I had talked to however right? It was another kid that brought the car out that night correct?

I did not know it was boosted at first, I saw a stock cav roll up and I was like aight then, not the only one here (aside from bill hahn who had the cobalt out and whom I chatted with over the course of the night) then all of a sudden he comes off the line spinning and I heard the BOV...twas a shock..haha.
