As the winter pushes on and my craving for the smell of high octane fumes grows ever stronger, I have finally MADE the time to put some hard hours into the car this past weekend. As some may recall, we were having a hell of a time trying to get the car through the traps without missing/grinding on 3rd gear. In early september, we replaced the trans that was giving us trouble with the spare trans we had. I finally get it all back together, fill it with oil and then tried to fill it with water when I hear some fluid hitting the floor, never a good sign. I looked under to investigate to see water in a small stream pouring out of the downpipe. UH-OH lol. The car's water had been mysteriously disappearing all season and we had finally found out why. Upon further inspection, there was a hole about a centimeter in diameter on the exhaust side of the head in cylinder 3. The hole was just to the left of the divider between the two valves and we believe it was caused by too aggressive of a porting job. After trying to fill the hole to no avail, we had to grab a brand new head. We had to port match the exhaust side to the size of the manifold openings and make a few other tweaks until we could finally bring it home and put the car back together. I spent all of last night finishing it up, was so excited to hear it run again, and guess what... dead battery

. So I had to suck it up and wait an hour to start it and she started right up.
As of right now, the car is at Rick's Racecraft getting the rest of the roll cage put in to be 135 MPH legal. As soon as it comes back, we have a small list of new modifications and updates for the upcoming season. OH and of course, some dyno time

.
Our list of changes includes:
1. Relocating the battery to the trunk.
2. Installing a battery cut-off switch (NHRA legal)
3. Fabricating a breather chamber for the oil
4. Rewiring and remounting of electronic components now that the dash is out
5. Installing a NACA air duct in the hood for the Turbo intake
6. Turning up the boost for more power (Tim Allen Grunt).
Unfortunately I have no pictures at this time. But I promise pictures of these updates and videos of dyno pulls.
And on a side note, We do plan on attending the GM Tuner Bash this year assuming all goes well !!!

Good to see that you are still going strong with the car. Looks like Ray Bates was right when he told me not to touch that divider on the ehaust side when porting heads. I think someone else on this site questioned me on if that was true or not, I guess we all know for sure now. Regardless great to hear that you guys figured everything out and got it back up and running for this year.
P.S. Your not the only one shooting for 10's this year...I have a few things up my sleve for ya this year

, too bad we couldn't get together sometime somewhere and run them, would be a good race I'm sure. Good luck with everything this year man, I wish you nothing but the best.

We were actually using a stock head gasket last year but this year we got a Cometic gasket. My dad has good confidence in them so we will see if it can hold up. And apparently Cali and I have learned a lesson for everyone. If your going to port your head, LEAVE THE DIVIDERS ALONE!!!
I know I kinda messed up with the pics lol. But I had a good chunk of time this weekend and didnt think about getting pictures. As soon as the car comes back from the chassis shop I'll be sure to take progress pics here on out.
One other item I forgot to mention. With a turbo so big, it is very hard to keep the thing spooled in between shifts so we may add a stage of nitrous for the first couple thousand RPM's to keep the turbo and the car moving. It would be a very simple single nozzle 100 dry shot with the DFI controlling the time the nitrous is on and the fuel suppplementing (<--Is that a word? lol)
Unfortunately, until the car comes back from the chassis shop, I'm stuck here twiddlin my thumbs.

Nice i can't wait to see how this thing performs.
This is one BEAST of a J body. I have much faith in you guys at Hahn !!!
Can't wait to see the pics and vids of your Sunfirezilla !!!!
That's a bummer Adam. I can't wait to see what that beast puts down in the 1/4.
NICE! Cant wait to see the new numbers. I like how you said simple and 100 shot together LOL

Haha, well compared to running a wet setup with a nitrous and fuel nozzle to each cylinder, a single nitrous nozzle behind the throttle body seems simple to me. Not to mention the DFI gives unlimited simple fuel supplementing power.

Why not a wet single nozzle setup?
Looking forward to squaring up with you and pops providing we can all get our s hit together before the bash. Raven, Brandon, Dave and all the ballers- be there!!

Blew it up, build numbers coming soon
Hey Adam what wheels and offset are you using for the Sunfire? I saw you're running a 26" Slick and think thats awesome! I was going to do what the GM build book said and use Grand Am uprights and KYB shocks with custom control arms. If you could tell me an easier way to fit a bigger tire it is appreciated. Thanks Adam and congrats! Looking forward to you setting another record!
I had 26 inch slicks on my sunfire without any issues.... I had 26x8x15.... Just need to make sure you have coil overs in the front and cut the oem spring purch off so the slicks wont hit it... I even had them mounted on my Kosie K1 15x7 rims... i'll see if I can find any old pictures of the car with them on to post...
I attatched the picture. If you cant view it, let me know I will upload it to the server and put a link up.

Hey Adam did you guys ever work out the issue with the voltage regulator not coming on and allowing the alternator to charge the battery? I remember you guys mentioning that since you removed the stock ecu to run the standalone you had to charge the battery with an external charger between runs since the voltage regulator wouldn't work without the ecu input. Anyway, I was looking in PJ's factory service manual two weeks ago when he was working on the car and it seems as if all you need to do is supply a 5 volt signal to one pin in the alternator connector, if I read the diagram correctly.
