Boost = Head Gasket failure???
Tuesday, January 29, 2008 8:44 PM
Hey, i was wondering if anyone knows at what point the stock head gasket will fail under boost? Specifically the 2.3L felpro, but i will take 2.4L input as well.
I know in the past people have went FI on bone stock motors, and I am interested in the failing point of the HG, 10.0:1 pistons/rings combo. Thanks
Also, I understand that detonation is going to play a large role in these items failing, so lets pretend, on a motor that has been properly tuned, when would these items fail.

Is that with or without Head Studs?

I hear the 2.3 fel pro likes to let go around 10 PSI. The graphite gasket should hold up much better. I have seen more fel pros burn out that graphite ones. Ill be rebuilding with a graphite gasket.

I've used a Felpro with ARP studs and pushed over 300whp without a failure.

the l61 headgasket is good for 400 hp. That thing is a beast.... I had a hell of a time prying it off my old motor lol
