I have a 96 2.2l ohv, Im ready to boost, so i want to do the top feed conversion using a 2200 rail. What exactly will i need? and can someone tell me a basic How TO, that would help alot.
you'll need the 2200 rail, whatever injectors you plan on using, a 95-97 OHV intake manifold. basically all you need to do is port out the injector bungs so that your new top feed style injectors fit snugly. Then you need to find a way to attach the rail to the manifold, the 2200 rail already has mounting tabs on it, you can just get creative to make that work. Once you have that all set, you either need a spacer so that the throttle wheel will clear the 2200 rail or you need to make the rail and injectors sit lower. thats basically how you do it. thats how i did mine when i boosted my 97 OHV cav. as a matter of fact, that topfeed setup might still be sitting in the back of my garage.
if you search for "top feed" in this forum, you should get an abundance of posts about the subject. everyone has their own way of doing the conversion and that will give you options on how you want to do yours.
Is an enlargement of the injector holes the only modification needed to fit the top-feed injectors in the manifold? I thought I saw one thread mention welding in new bungs.

Two different methods....

most people didn't like my conversion... but the car is running beautifully...
How'd you do your conversion?
Steve's
By far the most well done top-feed, I just don't like the injector angles (probably not an issue until your running 100# injectors, but still not optimal).

Heres mine
Just clearanced the injector holes until they "popped" down in. Bent the brackets a little cut the ends off and welded them back on sideways.
Very simple if you are mechanical at all.
OHV Notec; thanks for posting the link.
I will say, I ran into a problem with the inlet coming straight in from the side.
That is, unless you're getting rid of your power steering pump for 'hp' reasons, then you will need to pull the inlet from the 'back' of the rail.
The way the inlet was situated in the above link cause the hose and fitting to sit exactly where the power steering fluid reservoir sits, which really isn't cool at all.
At that point in time I wasn't willing to lose my power steering function (haha), so I had to quickly modify my rail to have the inlet come from underneath the plenum's flange. I wish I had taken a picture, but I was in such a rush to finish the car, I just slapped it together.
Boy theres a lot of people getting there conversions done now. Its been a couple years since ive been on here but looks like people are doing good. I doubt it if anyone remembers me on this site!

Looks to me like everyones using the 2200 fuel rail like i did. I sold my stuff. I ended up getting a z28 i built a engine for it just kinda got out of the 4 cylinder stuff.
But i recently bought a few cars for fixer uppers and dailey drivers I have a 00 z24 5spd and a 99 sunfire GT 5spd...and a 95 sunfire with the 2.2 5spd i still have some turbos and BOV's around and a couple junkyard intercoolers...Best of all i have a mcclaren 3.1 turbo engine and harness out of a 90 grandprix

ill mess around with another one sometime.
I think ill sell the 01 cavalier
keep the z28 for the weekend warrior
and have the sunfire gt as a daily driver
and twin turbo my 3.1 for the 95 lmao
If i ever get around to these ill show you guys what ive been up to.

You wouldn't happen to have a tranny with that 3.1 would you?

are you looking for that 3.1 tranny? i believe its a 4t60. Im sure you know the details how it has the heavier duty parts in it. Im pretty sure i have it in the shed somewhere im mating a 5spd up to it.
haha its good to see you guys on here again, i just thought id drop in and see what was goin on. im 19 now! lmao man im gettin old.

Here is mine.
Way back in April of 2005 i did mine. Still going strong. It was hard back then. Only like one other person had done a top feed before me. You guys have it easy now, with all these pictures, haha. Just kidding.
I remember you emry. Nice job.
In case anyone was wondering, here's
Emry's top-feed conversion.
Emry, what is holding your fuel rail in place?
fortune cookie say: better a delay than a disaster
And the one that started it all,
Tony Gibson (not sure how the hell those injectors were sealing. He told me he had welded in new bungs.
