Alright well turbo might be no more. I was thinking and i came across some good superchargers for the 2.2L ecotec engine. 17800003 - Ecotec Intercooled Supercharger Kit For 2.2L By GM. Its less money then a turbo, and i'm thinking it could possibly, with help, get me to the point i wanna be at. I was thinking of hitting mid to high 14's in the 1/4 mile. I'm not sure what im running now, pretty much a stock car though. The s/c would get me 200 hp and with some internals, the gm sc reflash, and some other mods im thinking i could get to the mid to high 14's what are your thoughts? is a s/c worth it? I'm really liking the idea, it seems to be a lot less of a hassle to have installed, and it will work on the auto cavalier ecotec unlike the turbos(i dont want to go custom).
And anyone have a price range for the installation i should be looking at with the gm reflash as well?

The GM supercharger kit is a decent price and alot easier then going custom. Mid 14's should be fairly easy with that set-up.
Not sure of a price on the install and reflash............
yeah i read somewhere on another forum? i think that a guy was paying 4100 for the install? Thats ridiculous ? you should never pay more for install then the product cost? hah

4100 is probably for both the charger kit + install. Just install it yourself, from what I read its fairly simple and plenty of people have done it. And with the money you save from installing yourself you can get some important things like the intercooler setup etc.

I thought it already came intercooled? I was thinking of installing it myself. That site has instruction a quick fly by and nothing too difficult. I'll still have to get the GM Reflash. Quick Question. I'd have to go to 92 gas, would it be alright to mix the 92 in with the 86 i use now? I'm gonna be getting that s/c around feb. I gotta save up money. BUt when the time comes could i mix the gas like a month a head of time and have the 86 work itself out. I'll let the tank go as low as i can but no real way of getting it completely out of there.

yeah man i'm write it does
The intake manifold included with this kit has a built in air to water intercooler. All parts shown in pictures are included in this kit.
it'll already be intercooled. would that be a suitable intercooler?

Also, if i installed the s/c myself would i be able to have the gm reflash done before the install?

you would have to get it towed to a gm dealer, have them approve the install then they charge 2 hours labor for the reflash...if they install it the reflash is free
mid 14s are very doable with a supercharged auto. there is a guy in canada that went 14.2 with only the supercharger on his sunfire sedan. i suck at launching my car, which is why i can't run anything better than a 14.7.
the supercharger is very easy to install. if you and some friends did the install, it should only take 4-6 hours, maybe longer depending on if you take breaks or not. the manifold is intercooled, however you would need to buy a heat exhanger(most people use the stock cobra unit), an intercooler pump, and some hoses.
i paid $109 for the reflash from my local dealer. i called them ahead of time to make sure they actually knew what i was talking about so that there would be no problems when i brought the car in.
moral of the story, install the kit yourself, or if you are uncomfortable doing that, i'm sure some jbo members in your area would be willing to help out, drive the car very carefully to the dealer, have them reflash it, beat the piss out of it on the way home and surprise the crap out of lots of people.
What water cooler are you thinging of using with the embedded charger cooler?

You do not have to have it towed to a GM dealer. I drove mine real easy for three weeks.

I forgot to mention that this is probably the best option for you. Your car will feel more powerful instantly when you hit the gas. As already said before you should be able to install this yourself.

I didnt know i had to get another cooler pipe and all of that. I'll have to check around and see what i find online then i'll letcha know what i would be planning on buying I need to save up but im looking around feburary to have the money. Maybe sooner.

I thought the re-flash was free which a coupon or something that came with the kit. Even if you did the install yourself. I thought it was included.
Nah usually when you buy the kit it says that it is free from the location in which you purcahse the kit. I was planning to get it from paceperformance so i'd have to take the car to whereever they are located and they would do it for free. I've heard it is also free with the installation, so if i paid my gm dealer to install the kit would they reflash it for free?

you are correct about the reflash being free from whoever you purchased the kit from. if you had the dealer do the install, i'm sure they would just add the price of the relash into the quote for installation.
where are you located in PA? if you're anywhere near me, i'd be more than happy to help you with the install. and i'm sure there are other PA jbo members that would gladly help out. all of the PA members that I've met have been really cool and helpful and most will work for beer or food, so it won't cost ya much
Altoona, pa its about 2 hours away from pittsbugh

I hit 14.0 on a stock car + gm s/c + intercooler parts and drag radials... some have hit 13s...
forget about the internals, unless you want to have more than 250 whp to the wheels and dip into the low 13s or veven 12s...

14.083 @ 99.746 mph GMPP s/c intercooled on drag radials.
Well Dammit. I thought it was included in the kit. Like a certificate or something. So after I do the install and all the money that I forked out for the kit(in transit) I'm going to have to pay more? God Dammit. I'm going to phone GM.
ill update later.
I paid nothing for the reflash.... it IS included in the kit. Alll you pay is the labor for the reflash... which is like 1 hour of labor or something like that

14.083 @ 99.746 mph GMPP s/c intercooled on drag radials.
There are a ton of posts here on JBO about the kit, the cost, where to buy it cheapest, how to set up the intercooler and so much more.
I'm not saying to search but you've stated somethings that are fairly common as far as questions that have been ask here...
The kit (part number 1780003 for 03 and up and 1780003-2 for 2002) is a bisic setup from GMPP. It is all inclusive and includes every nut, bolt, washer and hose need to install it and run it as non-intercooled. The only thing you need to do is not hook up the new MAP and drive it to the dealer very easy (don't get into boost!!) and they will charge 1 hour labor for the reflash. After it's been reflashed, you can beat and ronp it all you want!
The intercooler set up is an air to water intercooler. You'll need to purchase a resesivor (Cobalt SS works great) the cap for the resevior, mounting brakets to mount it, 90 degree elbows (heater hose), some straight heater hose, a water pump (look at ZZ performance and buy the Grand Prix pump it works good), a heat exchanger...can be a stock Cobra model or some have went with after market style and misc. clamps to hold it all to together. Also, I have a relay on my pump with all the wiring completed so the pump is on when the ignition is turned on. You'll need dex-cool coolant as well to fill the system.
I'd suggest going with a colder plug as well, at least 1 step colder (I have 2 step colder NGKs on mine)
The total cost of this system will be somewhere around $3,000 - $3,500 depending on the heat exchanger set up you decide to run.
Labor from a dealership is around $75 an hour and expect GM to take about 7 or 8 hours to install. They will charge you for the reflash as well unless you bought the kit through them.
I suggest you order the kit and ask for some help from some local JBOers....plenty have knowledge of this SC and install is around 6 hours or so and as stated...most work for beer and food.
Eh...old man with a Corvette now...it was bound to happen sooner rather than later right?
I could install the kit myself, thats no biggie i read some instructions, easy enough. It's the reflash i'm wondering about. I contacted my local gm dealer to see the cost of install and gm reflash. If its not to much ill have them do it all. I planned on getting the intercooler and water pump and all that as well. SOmeone asked me what i would be using and on ecotecforum theres a sc thread that says what to use and gives names and all that. I'll be getting the parts in which they have listed for the intercooling. Thanks for the offer to help install though. Its nothing big i'm good with car installation, just not the tuning part ahha.
