can you give a full build list?

arent you going to have to tap the head and block for more head bolts?

and dont you also need to o ring it?

intrested to know the what your gonna need to make this work.

i think id fill in the area under the ports , there isnt alot of room left for gasket left , are you guys gonna do any combustion chamber work on the heads ?

rest looks very nice

Everything looks really good guys, can't wait to see it run.

I'm just wondering where you got those figures from unless you are talking crank HP because I don't think a GT35R will make those kind of numbers safely. My turbo is a lot larger than a GT35R and mine is only rated to 780hp before it run's out of it's efficiency range. Maybe I missed something (maybe your not running a GT35R) but if you are shooting for those numbers I think a bigger turbo is going to be needed unless you are planning on running the turbo to the limits of its ability at which point one mistake with tuning, bad gas, etc and by by motor.

Also did you flow bench the head after the head work was done? We just did one here a few months back and got a 96 1/2% increase in flow @ 2 thou lift on the exhaust side which just shows you how restrictive the stock head is.

Good luck with it and it's too bad your not close, it would be a good race I think.

The motor will have bedplate studs instead of bolts like stock, a steel crank, pistons, rods, bigger head studs, valve springs and retainers, some big cams, and a ported head. We had to drill out the head a little bit for the bigger head studs but we are not adding more head bolts or 'o-ringing' it.

You are right, we will probably fill that area with some sort of epoxy. At this time, we are not going to do any combustion chamber work on the head, we don't see a need.

You should come down to Great Lakes Dragaway in late June for the TVR J-body get together. It would be a good place to show off your hard work with that 6 cylinder swap in.

Well, we got the block put back together tonight. My dad took a look at the wrist pins and decided that they were not strong enough for the power we want to put down. As far as what we are going to do next....I'm not too sure, we were stuck on that intake so long I forgot about all the other to do's lol. I'll be sure to let you all know as soon as I figure it out.

sounds good

im just kinda partial to removing sharp edges while your using forced induction to help remove hot spots

i know you guys have pushed the hell out of the eco's

does anyone know what vavles/springs and retainers i could use on my project? Adam toldme he is using Ferra but also said that for the 400 hp i'm shooting for, Ferra would be a little overkill.

set the example, never let the example set you.

Taupe, not to be rude or anything, but to get good answers to this question, you should post your own thread as this is a thread about how the Hahn Sunfire is coming along.

97trd, where do you see sharp edges?

the edge of the combustion chambers where the head gasket goes , the big round circle

that and usually smoothing out the valve , but its the sharp edges that are the biggest problems/issues

There are not any sharp areas that we are worried about. There was a very small lip on the insides of all the combustion chambers on the head, but we sanded those down awhile ago.

can you explain the benifet of the head stud style you are talking about, and what exactly it does.

ah ok , sounds like you guys did smooth out the lip then

how close are you guys getting on the car now ?

Re: Hahn Sunfire Progress (Pics!)

Our head studs are just like any other, just a bigger diameter. There are still 10 head studs. You may be confused because we changed the BEDPLATE bolts into studs, and there are 20 of those. Keep in mind this is an Ecotec motor. Does that clear things up?

We finished up all the IC piping last night. We are still kind of far from it running but depending on if we get all the parts we need, the motor will go together fully Saturday night. As far as big things left, we are still waiting on the DFI to get here, the fuel system needs to be routed, the new clutch is almost finished, need to rout the water lines to the turbo, weld the spider gears together in the transmission, and a bunch of little things here and there and everywhere. Once this new motor is finished, I can throw that in and the real work can begin. WIthout that motor in there, it was useless to run wiring and what not and i can start putting things on "permanently".

Also when that motor is done, my dad can work on other things that require his knowledge while i take a few hours to swap motors. I literally spend every hour of free time working on that car (little as it may be with school, track and work). My dad says he predicts it will be running mid-late May. But, running is far from tuned lol and that is what will take the longest.

So I'll keep you guys updated and trust me, the initial start we will get on video

Adam: Why not get Brian's LSD insert with some monster springs instead of welding the diff? Do it right dude....your the one that's told me that a few times.

with the power they are gonna be putting down , i think anything short of a spool/welded spiders , is gonna give them problems

and no one makes a real spool

Why not just get Quaife and be worry free, weren't you cracking diffs at 400hp?

Good luck...I have been trying to find one for a year and a half now. Quaife discontinued them after only making an inital run of 12 units and I have no clue where they are now. I am pretty much in the same boat but I will drive mine on the street so welding the diff is not an option (not till the last race of the season anyway ). I contacted phanton grip but no one has gotten back to me yet, I also contacted Quaife's North American distributor to see if I could have one made just for me, still waiting to hear on that one.

Hey all,

Sorry for the late reply, I was at my Conference track meet the past 2 days. CONFERENCE CHAMPS!!!

Now to the business:

The biggest issue is that a Quaife is another $1,000+ that I would be forking over and I just cannot afford that. The car will be street legal and to be honest will be actually street driven extremely rarely. It is my 2nd car and there is no point in putting unneed wear on those high end parts when I have another car to drive.

We never actually cracked/destroyed a diff. After literally 100+ passes at 12.5 or faster, the bearing started to go. We actually didn't even know it was going we just happened to open up the trans to check on it and found that .

Also, we are prepared to be removing the trans numerous times throughout the year to check on it and there will likely be a few replacements. There is no telling, but the Getrag is one of the most bulletproof transmissions we have ever seen and if my dad didn't think they could hold the power, we wouldn't be doing this.

It's going to be a slow weekend because I lost a Saturday due to my track meet and Sunday I will be doing an install. But on a positive note, the DFI setup and even possibly the multi disk clutch will show up this week , and I promise pictures of that clutch.
