I am turbocharging my car very soon and wanted to see how many poeple out there are running any kind of boost with the stock fuel pump.
If you are...How much boost are you running and for how long?
I will be using the saab setup and won't be going past 10 at the track. 6 on the street.

I am...
12 psi.. hittgin 14 with 750cc injectors
LE61T PTE6262 Powered
My original pump is over 6.5 years old, and has been feeding a boosted engine for the past 3.

14.330 @ 96.37mph
i ran 12 psi on my 2200 for awhile (110k on engine and FP, and 10k with boost) no problems with the fp..
i ran stock fp for all my boosted miles (40k) But i neglected my fuel filter because i work at a shop and as most know mechanics cars are almost always the most neglected

Ok maybe just mine. 229$ Oh well

i ran 17/18 pounds on the stock pump, as long as you lower the fuel pressure with a afpr you should be find... to much pressure on the pump breaks it... it can only flow so much too... i dont kno how much though, or how much its good for boost wise

fuel pressure dropped on mine past 11 psi using 60# injectors it required 90% + duty cycle to maintain 11.5:1 afr's (bad)
i would recommend upgrading to the blazer pump if your boosting at a minimum as a safeguard. also replace the filter if its not been done.

14 psi on stock pump for now
13psi on stock pump for 30K miles boosted (112k total miles)
10PSI on stock pump, lowered pressure to 32PSI in the rail.
The stock pump can handle the fuel
IF you size the other parts right. Get the right sized injectors, get an FMU and set it so that it DOES NOT max out the fuel pump in boost, or get the right sized injectors and tune them with HPT. My stock pump is probably got an easier job now that I'm boosted and have HPT than it did NA, just because I'm using injectors that have a lot of play, and HPT that allows me to tune the injectors, not the fuel pressure.

8months @ 6psi and 3 months so far @10psi.
This baby's going strong...
This makes me think about something. I have the Vortech 4.3 pump on my list but I wonder if I'll need it or if the stock one will even make it. I'm going to be using 24# Chevy LT1 injectors because they have pretty close to thesame flow at idleas as the stock injectors but on a lower pressure of 22psi. And they should be big enough to provide fuel under boost. I'm not sure what fuel pressure I'll need under boost, but Slow was doing the math and he figured on a range of 22psi at idle to I think 76psi, in which the LT1 injectors matched up nicely.
So am I looking at the Vortech pump as an absolute necessity or just good insurance?

this is definitely an interesting post......

... the less amount of fuel that the injectors can spit out before reaching unsafe injector duty cycles, the more fuel pressure you need to get the fuel you need under higher boost levels.... people with only fmu;s and afpr are tuning for boost with just fuel pressure..... this is a huge strain on the pump, and why so many people upgraded to a pump that can take it and deliver more volume of fuel....
get bigger injectors... there are a set of 4 green top 440's in the classifieds right now for 100 bucks... i had 440's at like 12psi with no problems on the stock pump
tuning with injector pulse widths has to be more precise... scratch the pump and get bigger injectors
p.s. if im wrong in anything the gurus can correct it for me

I'll definitely look into it. The reason the LT1 injectors seemed like the best choice was because they wouldn't be pig rich at idle, but still flow enough fuel. If I need to switch them out, no biggie, I got them from a friend for free.
if you're getting huge ass injectors, you can't expect to idle them JUST by lowering fuel pressure. You will have to decrease the pulse width as well. (in which you need a way to control that pulsewidth, you cant do it without someway to modify your computer)
or megasquirt....
tuning with just fuel pressure is caveman-ish lol, we have computer controlled fuel injection, use it

I would go with a larger pump if you can... it always better to go with something bigger and use it more efficiently..
horsepower is how hard you hit the wall, Torque is how far you push the wall with you
if done correctly, you can make the pump have less strain on it then it does stock. thats efficient. however, nothing is stopping you from buying the pump for now reason!!

stock pump on 9psi holding strong baby!
**changes are here**
Thanks for all the input guys! I think after seeing this I might just leave the stock pump in for a while.
