Timing 2.2 OHV
Saturday, May 06, 2006 8:15 PM
Hey all, I am researching info for my engine setup, and was wondering if anyone has had to retard timing on the 2.2 OHV engine, when turboing them? My setup is a t3 turbo etc. Ported and polished, rods, pistons etc. Can someone swing me some help or advice? Thanks.

my timing is stock............ the computer retards timing based on afr and other tables..........

as far as installing the chain, install it like it is stock..... the computer will do the rest !

Really? Thanks for the info...have you heard anything on Gear to Gear cam driving for the 2.2? Are you very familiar with Turbo setups? If so, maybe you can help me out some? I'd appreciate it.

As far as i am aware of there is not gear drive for the ohv as of yet. Plus if there was I bet the computer would pick it up as knock and pull timing. If you want a better set up. You could go with a double roller timing chain from the old 1.8 and 2.0 ohv motors. It reqires a little machine work, and the hardest part is locating all the parts you will need.

As far as the computer pulling timing for boost stock......I highly doubt it. I l know you can get the msd dis programible and it has an input for a map sensor so you can set it up to pull as much timing as you what per pound of boost. If your really serious about tuning your car better, Look into the HPT software, and sign up at http://4cyltuner.com/Forum/index.php The site is rather new but is run by Shifted. He is a regular on this forum and knows quite a bit.

Hope this helps.

What type of machining does it require? How big of a difference are they, same length? Diff sprockets>?
