I've had my Alpine 2-way 4x6 model SPS-460A speakers in the car for about 6 months now with no problems. About a week ago I installed a 4 channel x 40 watt Alpine amp to run the two door speakers and the rear 6x9's. Recently I noticed distortion from my driver's side front speaker, so today I pulled off the door panels and found that the rod connecting the tweeter to the rest of the speaker had somehow melted (as best I can tell) to the point where the tweeter pod had drooped and was making contact with the woofer cone as it vibrated causing the distortion. Whats the deal!? It's just the drivers side, I looked at the other speaker and it's just fine, no damage whatsoever. Has anyone else had any similar problems and how good do you think my chances are at talking with Alpine about a replacement under their 1 year limited warranty? I should be able to get pictures soon if my description isn't clear.
