I have a cd/dvd player and I just installed 4 new JBL speakers, but now when i turn off my car, the stereo doesn't run on battery power alone it just shuts off right of way at first it took a minute or two but now as soon as i turn the car off, the radio shutsoff right of way, does anyone have an idea of what that could be?

do you lose any memory settings in the radio or anything? Mine has always shut off as soon as my key turned off. Hard to say what would change it.

Do you mean it won't turn on if the key is in accessory? If you're talking about how the stock deck stays on after you take the key out untill you open the door, only stock decks do that. All aftermarket deck that I've seen turn off as soon as you turn the key from accessory or ignition.

unless you hook it up like mine, Besse.

I just hooked up the ignition wire to a fuse in the fuse box and now the radio plays without a key. Have to turn it off manually every time though.

but, slick, if you are talking about an aftermarket and hooked up the ignition wire to the ignition, then the radio should turn off with the car.

no, when you turn off the car and leave the keys in the ignition (power on), the radio should keep playing until you turn off all the power completely, but mine goes off almost right of way! could it be because my new speakers might require more power to run? because i know my dvd player already takes a chunk of power?

sounds like your battery is not providing enough voltage maybe?? are these speakers amp'd? or do you have a sub in the system? possibly the amp is not getting enough voltage.

It still goes off, but now it happens when the volume is turned up, I think that the speakers kind of drain the power faster! Does that mean that maybe I need an amp?

No, the amp has nothing to do with it i wouldn't think. What kind of head unit do you have? maybe it is not grounded properly? or you have a bad connection somewhere. does everything else work when the engine is off (power windows, lights, etc.)?

yeah everything else works, its just the stereo that doesnt work, I mean it still works but only on low volume! I have a Kenwood cd/dvd flip up Headunit. You know I am starting to think that its a bad connection somewhere, I should check that
