when lookin for a crack in the head.. also warpage

ok i am wanting to find out some things regarding possibility of a crack in the cylinder head, on the 10112391S cast 1997 2.2L heads

normally when a head is cracked it is either between the valve seats of a chamber, or is through only one of the valve seats

i cant find anything at all on this head to suggest it is cracked

i dont have a straightedge andi cant think fo anything to use as one to check for warpage, other than maybe a large flat file ?

any ideas ?

is max allowable warpage .002

or is it .005 ?

i have seen both listed

the cylinder compression ring of the head gasket for cylinder number 4 cracked on thisone and so it was burning water, bubbling exhaust gases up from the coolant fill tank, and it was getting hot really quick within a couple/few minutes of driving it

so

i cannot see anything bad with the head at all, and i have read that these 2.2L heads are really pretty good about holding up

i really strongly believe that if it is not warped then it is fine and i need to get reinstall it soon, as it did run good/strong and everything looks very clean for the mileage

thanks for anything at all

Take it to a machine shop and have it magnafluxed and checked for straightness, it will be worth it.

There could be a crack that you cant see with your naked eye. Take it to a machine shop they would have to proper tools to check it.

they crack between the valves and from the spark plug hole to the valve. they dont crack through the valve seats since they have steel seats pressed in the aluminum head.

A quick visual inspection is only to decide if the head that your sending to the machine shop has a chance to be good. That is the only reason to visual inspect it, not is it good enough to reinstall.

Dont waste your time, just have it pressure tested(magniflux is for steel heads) and have it resurfaced. Remember to change the head bolts cause they are torque to yield bolts. DO NOT reuse the old bolts they will not work, trust me I have seen them reused and I know the out come.
