Yup, a new record low MPG. 175 miles for 14.1 gallons of gas. That's what? 12.4 mpg? For a 2002 Sunfire with a 2200 LN2 manual that's amazing. No air, no options, all stock and less than 50,000 miles on the clock.
Can anyone beat that with an unmodified base engine car?

Huh? Huh? Can ya?
Its cold and you must abuse it...my milage (about the same for the manual eco as for the manual LN2) has gone from mid thirties to low twenties just because of weather...
Naw, that's the thing. I barely drive it. I just go to work about 15 minutes away and come back home. I never floor it, and I never let it sit idling for long. There's not even any stop signs or lights between me and work. The worst I've done to it is let it warm up 3 or 4 times for about five minutes, but that's it. Granted, it's a little slippery up here these days so I've been spinning when going uphill, but even that didn't happen more than once or twice. The only thing I can think of is that it's colder than a nun's heart. Been -25 Celsius (-13 Farenheit) a few times.
I had trouble this summer with bad mileage, thought it was my O2 or Air/Fuel sensors so I had them both changed. Also had my fan belt changed. Guess the problem's still there.
Maybe it's because I drive it cold? I've driven off right after starting the car a few times. Still, I did that with a bunch of old crapboxes and their fuel economy didn't plummet. Maybe I'll let it warm up a minute now. See what that does.
wow. the lowest i get is like 25mpg

coming back in 2008...
220 miles per tank on my Eco auto... winter, summer doesn't matter
If I baby it, I can get 240
I got better mileage in my dad's truck.Which is a a ford f150 with a small lift and bigger tires.I hammered the thing too, cause well when your 18 and you have a v8 you tend to do that.
Rememeber kids... spell check is your friend
Jeez, in the summer time I can get 600+ KM's to a tank of gas if I baby it all the time.
I was getting that on my Ln2 2200 last time i really drove the damn thing which was @!#$... 3 years ago. Since then i don't even get a full tank of gas in and out of my car in a season. But i had a vacuum leak for the HVAC controls then wasn't able to get a full tank through the car. Intake, 2.5" exhaust, header, Nology wires, MSD coils, and even started running 93 octane. I wasn't driving any highway tho either so that could have played a factor. I gave up tho and went eco swap.
I get a consistant 650 per tank on my 97Z. And in no way do I baby it.
last time i figured it out my car got 42mpg on the highway and thats with a 3400 and not babied. havn't figured out what the in town mileage is yet though

DAMN.
Mine averaged 23 with a combined highway/city/track. And I know i'm a little on the rich side too.
Not to mention, I like using excessive ammounts of throttle to accelerate.
Weird, worst I've had was around 260mi on 11.8gal, gauge showing empty. The fuel level pick-up is a little out of whack as I've got a 14 gal tank.
"Babying it" is not in my vocabulary.
from San Angelo to El Paso on 1 tank... roughly 415 miles, about ~35 mpg
I usually get anywhere from 280-320 miles on a tank, it all depends on if im on it all the time
.
jeese. i get about 20-23 HIGHWAY and 18 normal. its been this way for about 6 months now. it sucks. im starting to suspect rear O2 Sensor tho

mine was 100% highway, drove to a car show that was just off of hwy401 and drove back, filled up figured out what i got for mileage
no city driving at all

After slightly more calculations, I have determined that the Sunfire is doing 16.2 mpg. Better, but hardly award winning. It's definitely running rich, I can smell it in the exhaust. That unburned gasoline smell is unmistakable. Go to any racetrack and you'll smell it there too.
Anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

Mileage wasnt that good when I had it, but ofcourse, my foot was pretty planted most of the time! lol
your not driving long enough to for maximum mileage---i drive 3 miles each way to my job and im getting about 12-14 miles to the gallon----
My aunt had a Pontiac 6000 that she drove like you did, guess what hammened to it... The sludge got to it, it now has no oil pressure and rod and cam bearings are toast... I have beat your milage though... '02 Cav, LN2, 79km to 60 litres, the tank after that was 100km, the next one was 400, then dropped again, now intermitantly running on 3 cyls.(this was mostly highway driving btw)
I think you're right Ryan and Sam. I drive a lot of crap mileage. Luckily I change the oil every 2000-2500kms, so I'll avoid a lot of what Ryan aunt's car suffered. (I've always done that, comes from a lifetime of driving really crappy cars and discovering that their engines will run trouble free for an insanely long time if you keep them bathed in fresh oil.) I'm also getting the fuel/air filter changed and the injectors cleaned. So that should be good as well.
I think from now on, I may just walk to work. I don't think my Sunfire's made for such short, regular commutes.
my gf got a 2002 sunfire with the ln2 that is stock and gets about 320 on a tank of gas
