hey guy,
Customer brought me a '04 sunfire with a ecotech and rod knock. They got a engine from a junkyard and said it was out of a "05. Well... the powersteering pump on the '04 is cam driven and i assume the 05 had the electronic unit. Is there a way to make this engine work? The only solution i see is changing the cam... i think i'll have him go get another engine.
Huh. Did the 05 motor come out of a J-Body? Well if it did then the power sterring pump is the same. J-Body's did not get a electric PS set-up.

Im not sure what it came out of. I guess i can assume a colbalt? it had a plate where the ps pump would bolt up and when i removed the plate no provision for the pump
It would have had to come out of the cobalt. If I remember Skwirl's post correctly the Cobalt's cams and such are different too. You'd have to swap the cam and the valve cover at the least. If not, the entire head.
Cobalt or Ion, Ions have had electric steering for a number of years now.

I think you are thinking about his post about the 2.0 head and cams being different than the 2.2 head and cams.
Still J's had powering sterring pumps, not electric pumps.
