I have alternator, starter and ac compressor coming to me by the 5th, I ordered the ECU and radiator today, this coming monday I order the wiring harness, and next friday I order the clutch then as soon as I get everything in hand, i'll be ready to do the swap.
I'll start a new thread with pictures and probably a video of the swap in process.

What about me

My old car was the skwirls faithfull companion , you just going to up and leave me hanging peej?
So here's my tentative parts list for an ecotec swap (the final list will be out once the swap is actually done... can't plan for those unexpected problems)
1) Ecotec Engine with wiring harness, computer (make sure its for the trans you're using) and all accessories (alt, starter, ac compressor)
2) Ecotec specific transmission (bolt patterns from other trans/engine combos DO NOT match up)
3) flywheel and clutch for ecotec (if necessary)
4) ecotec upper motor mount
5) ecotec manifold and catalytic converter (makes your life super easy)
6) ecotec radiator
7) miscellaneous hoses for radiator hook up and heater lines, vac lines, and anything else that might need to be extended (this will be cleared up once install is actually done)
here's my parts list of what i bought so far:
-2004 ecotec engine with 4000 miles $500
-2004 5 speed transmission $400
-2003 grand am ecu (works with the engine but its for an automatic) $100
-2003 5 speed ecu (the RIGHT one so I dont have to get a reprogram) $120
-Jegs universal aluminum radiator $190
-2004 ecotec Alt, starter, ac compressor $120
-upper motor mount (borrowing from lambofgoddess) freebie
-stock manifold and cat (borrowing from lambofgoddess) freebie
-Fidanza lightened flywheel (7lbs) $290
all I need now is a SPEC clutch and a main engine wiring harness (i got screwed out of one) then i'll be ready to do the swap
total including unpurchased parts $2520
total cost is a bit over what i was hoping to shell out but in the long run it'll be more than worth it.. plus ihad to buy some things aftermarket that if you got with a clip would make it a lot easier
clip was about $1000 but i wanted to do it the slightly harder more expensive way to make sure I got exactly what I wanted.
stay tuned
I <3 PJ

would the swap be the same with a 99?
no the 95-99 jbodies had the older electronics set up. You'd have a lot more work in the form of rewiring the car with the 00-05 electrical system. Nobody's come up with a way around it yet other than the hard way. Also the trans mounts are different since the 99 had the isuzuz transmission so you'd have to alter those mounts too
00-05 has the same body eletrical system, so the engine adapts to it without problem since it was designed around that substructure anyway.
here's an update on new parts I've received:
5 speed ecu (all ecus for 00-05 look the same only after installing it in the car and doing the passlock relearn can you tell if its for an auto or manual (auto computers on a manual car throw codes like a mad man, and idle is 800rpm. manual computers in an auto the car won't drive at all since nothing is controlling the transmission)
jegs aluminum radiator (ford syle 19" x 31"
2 parts left to go... clutch and wiring harness pretty sure i'm ordering the clutch tomorrow
I'm deff gonna keep an eye on this. I am very interested in this swap myself unless people get the 2200 runnin w/o issues.

2009 Ford Mustang V6
Hey Squirrel, So I guess you did kill your cam huh? Too bad man that sucks! Well at least your well on your way with the swap. Good Luck man.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
yea its dead i'm not gonna resurrect it this time
it runs and drives, but WOT it doesn't do much of anything
one more part to go i just ordered this =D
all i have left now is a wiring harness
then I'll have all the major components...
then all I'm down to is some hoses, and fluids
Thats cool man! Glad its coming together for you. And it would seem rather nicely at that.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.

... i actually never thought about it as turning a bad into a good, makes the world seem just a little better and more bearable...
my boss actually said it to me the best.. " dave you are the cavalier and if you get rid of it then you are no longer dave, you have let a bad thing go against you and have not done anything to make it a good situtation."
I looked at him and realized it was the total truth. and im making it better.
hey listen PJ do they make any build kits for a transmission shop?

still trying to procure a engine wiring harness
no junkyards have them, and whoever does its for automatic
i'm being forced to buy a brand new one which is about $420 and what wtih xmas around the corner... i've had to put things on hold for a week or too
targeted swap date is from dec 26th - jan 2nd
the engine will be installed hopefully during that time frame and in less than 48 hours (two consecutive days, but falling somewhere between the dates mentioned)
i plan on filming everything and photographing everything
sorry on the harness........it was hard finding one too.....i ended up goin the new harness route at 410 bucks
as for the auto harness you can convert it but i didnt want to mess it up.
If you are gonna order the harness you might do it asap so you can get it. When i ordered mine they didnt have it in stock anywhere and i had to wait for it to be made by gm. for my application. about a 3 week wait.
i already searched their dave thanks tho
those were where i got the 7 places from in the area
a buddy said he could have it odered (he works at a pontiac dealership) and I'd get it next day... but we'll see when the time comes
the longer it takes, the more powerful the engine will be when it finally goes in
all in due time...
PJ, get a hold of me, did you email that guy?
I <3 Eco's

Just use the Auto harness...... its not a big deal. Save you a good chunk of cash in the long run.
