When you install a tach where would you mount it? Is it necessary to drill through the dash or something? Or is there any other way to do it? And lastly, does the automatic 2.2 cavie have the white wire near the glovebox?
You can mount it anywhere you want. Where and what you drill through is up to where you want it. Most people put it somewhere near the stock gauge cluster, or next to the A pillar. The mounting options (drill and screw, strap, etc) will depend on the tach you are using.
Judging from your username, you have a 93 Cav (please fill out your registry, that way we can all be positive when you ask questions). I'm 100% sure the 94 Cavs use the B11 wire on the center connector of the ECM (its white). I'm not 100% sure of the 93s, since they have a different ECM.
Sorry about the registry it's filled out now. I picked up a sunpro tach today, so will this have to get hooked into the engine coils or is there even a white wire I can use?
Update: I read the application guide, it said on the 93 cavalier you had to run it to the coil packs at the rear of the engine and on the 94 you had to run it to the white wire located in the dash? Is this true before anything gets messed up?
