it would be louder, flow better, your check engine light will come on, and you might lose to much back pressure if you have a straight threw muffler.

This is not on the same track as the other comments (catalytic converter)..... but i have straight exhaust on my 00 cavi and tonight i bought the rear section off an srt-4. i think it should bolt up with some custom hangers, but anyway Chris, do you think having no muffler, but still having the stock cat will affect my power? I had a flowmaster on it for a little while, and it seemed a little quicker with the back pressure...?

back pressure is restriction... restriction is bad.

you do not need backpressure, you need exhaust flow velocity.

that being said, by changing the cat out for straight pipe, you will gain more flow up top but lose some down low due to turbulence in the exhaust stream.

it's give and take...

I agree with what strat81 said.

you will gain in 1 area, loose in another.

I would go high-flow cat, and nice muffler with the correct sized piping, and you will get the best results.

John, when you say correct sized piping, do you mean the stock sized piping, or maybe something a little (.25" or so) larger to accomodate for better flow?

well, it depends on what you are doing.

Most N/A J's can benefit more from a 2.25" mandrel bent exhaust, even the radical N/A's, but if you are going boosted, a 2.5, or even a 3" is going to be the best size for you.

okay, well...no money for boost, so maybe 2.25"? lol. thanks for the advice

yeah, 2.25" will give you the best bang out of an NA car.
