I don't think so? This is how I was going to connect this thing, per the instructions.
alarm (code alarm CA630) to 2001 cavi
Black to chasis ground for constant ground input.
Pink to pink main ignition for main ignition input/output
pink/white to white 2nd ignition wire for 2nd ignition input/output
orange to orange for main accessory input/output
purple & purple w/red trace to yellow starter wire for starter input/output
white to brown for parking light output
brown to white for brake light input
blue & green for the door lock / unlock output (I'll leave this til I get that figured out)
green w/ purple trace to white for open door trigger
black & red to siren connections
gray wire to hood pin or mercury tilt switch (which would be better to use?)
black & red to LED connections
valet override (arrived connected)
antenna has a plug
2 red wires to red for constant power
Bypass to alarm brain & cavi
brown to blue/black wire of alarm brain
violet to violet data wire (pin #2 of diagnostic connector)
orange to red (cars 12v) for constant power
Black to chasis ground for constant ground input.
does this sound right? I mean the cavi wires that the alarm's connected to. I don't
remember reading a connection to the tach. wire in the alarms directions.
Although I have heard this used before, just didn't know what for.
Thanks again.
its a code alarm? then it needs to be tached. I used to work at CC and dealt with code quite a bit. just dont remember what it is off hand. but that would cause it to do the same thing. same thing for a hood pin switch. if its connected and not fully closed for a negative trigger or open for a positive then it will do the smae thing,.
O.k., as I went through the factory installation manual this is what it says.
Tach Input ( - ) violet / white
Connect the 9C wire (alarm harness) to wire at the negative side of the vehicle ignition coil or fuel injector.
Verification: refer to the vehicle wire color and location chart for the color and location.
IMPORTANT! if this wire is not connected, over-rev shut-off is disabled.
^^^ what does that mean, if I connect it will my car blow up and if I don't I guess my car won't start.
The wiring diagrams say the Tach wire is white and located in the harness in front of the eng over trans (2 cyl).
How do I test a wire at the negative side of the vehicle ignition coil or fuel injector? If I'm reading this correctly
do I just connect the violet / white (alarm) to the white (car tach). I imagine this leads into the cabin somewhere. That's where I would like to connect it.
I think you might have solved my problem w/ why it wouldn't stay running after it started. The step by step instructions didn't even mention a Tech connection. So much for getting this installed this weekend, but that's o.k. There's always tomorrow.
Sorry for all the questions and Thanks again for all the help and knowledge.
hey mike do you mind sending me the install pic for your lock actuators...im in the exact same jam as you are but i havent even started yet!
"Sunfire got stolen, all i have is the J to remember it by"
does your alarm have wires to open and lock your locks>??? without having to use the door actuator relays???
becuase i was looking at my alarm and door actuators and i just found out that i dont need the two actuators that have 5 wires...just the two actuators that have 2 wires and my alarm will take care of the rest...
"Sunfire got stolen, all i have is the J to remember it by"
it will not have enough current to pop the actuators though. you can give it a shot but im willing to bet that they wont. the tach wire is pretty simple. find your injectors and look at the two wires coming off each. one wire will be the same color on each injector. use the other colored one and that is your tach. easiest way to do it. just dont run the wire through or over the engine. keep it away as best you can and wire loom it so it has some additional protection.
DJ Silent, I'll try to get some digital pics soon. I was thinking of doing the same thing after I read about this on
http://www.the12volt.com/ (This is an awesome resource!) I think you'll still need to wire this up w/ relays for reverse polarity. I checked Auto Zone, Advance, Pep Boys & Radio Shack. No one carried this, so go to a Car Audio / Alarm place like Best Buy , Circuit City or a local one. You need a SPDT relay. Bosch (I think that's how it's spelled) is really common and cost about $4.00 a piece and you can get a pre wired harness for a few dollars more. (Note: make sure the actuators
are not fully extended when you install them, I read that this trips a circuit inside and this causes the door to default to the unlock position.)
n8ball2013: Thanks for the help, as I read over the actual instructions (from factory) and comparing them to the step by step (where I ordered the alarm from). They totally missed the Tach connection. I didn't see anywhere, the alarm being tachless. So I guess that's what the problem was.
I wish I had a garage so I can do this. Now I have to wait for a day without rain and snow to get this thing installed.
Thanks!
whats being tached???
also when you install the alarm and have to use the ignition harness cables....how do you connect them?? do you cut them and then interwine them together then black tape or what???
do you use some kind of connetor???? pictures
"Sunfire got stolen, all i have is the J to remember it by"
no problem bro. i did a ton of code alarms and they didnt work for ish without a tach for the remote start portion. for the connection you just find the wire and strip back the coating. twist the alarm wire around it and solder it. then tape or heat shrink over it.
as far as the relays dei makes a part that is just that. code does i believe too. you would need two relays one to lock and one to unlock. the part is simple. if you get it and get a copy of the diagram i can have that up for you.
DJ Silent, My alarm is a Code Alarm CA630 (Audiovox) that had to have the tach connected to it. I originally didn't know this was required for a hook up til n8ball2013 pointed this out to me.
As for connecting the cables, I marked the harness' (ignition, wiper, light, key cylinder, etc, etc,) and disconnected then. This made splicing the wires 10x easier. Just remove the shroud around the steering wheel, mark the harness' and pop them off. Splice a small section of the wire (do not cut the wire in half unless your doing a remote start then it's just the one wire, the yellow starter wire) poke and wrap the alarm wire into the car wires that apply, then solder and tape. Check and double check the connections and then reconnect the harness' One thing to mention is a good trick before you reconnect the harness' put some sandwich bags on them as you fish these up the dash and back to the connections. Cause if the battery's still connected and a connector hits metal there will be sparks, and those are bad!
n8ball2013, I got some Bosch relays and wired them up (see diagram Actuators / Reverse Polarity @
http://www.the12volt.com/doorlocks/page3.asp#5w). Just need to attach these to the alarm and door's wires. Quick question. I don't know where to splice the wire's on the relay to the doors wires. Post 30 on my relays goes to the door actuator wires. should I connect these to the control module harness on the door locking system? I think this would be a prime spot.
This is how I'll go about doing my install. Depending on the weather and I have my kids this weekend.

............ so hopefully soon.
Thanks
i know i might get penalized for this but i need to do it....i have a topic open under audio and electronics but i just wanna know in as much detail you guys can is to what color wire do i connect these and where that wire is...i have a 2002 pontiac sunfire coupe.

DJ Silent, I have a 2001 Cavi, but that doesn't matter, the wiring is pretty much the same.
From the wiring guide you supplied this is how I would wire it up.
I hope it makes sense and if it doesn’t work. I’m sorry and I disclaim all responsibility. Just make sure to check with the OEM manual of the alarm and a Haynes manuel to see if this is correct. My alarm is Audiovox so that’s what I’m trying to use as a guide. Please feel free to ask around and see if these instructions are good to use since your alarm is different.
From what you provided. I would connect the gound wire first or disconnect the battery. Then plug the alarm harness' into the brain.
1. power connection – red wire from the alarm to the red wire in the ignition switch harness
2. ignition connection - Purple wire from the alarm to pink wire in the ignition switch harness
3. accessories connection – white wire from the alarm to the orange wire in the ignition switch harness
4. start wire and started disable - cut the yellow wire in the ignition switch harness in half. Yellow wire from the alarm to the key side of yellow wire in the ignition switch harness. Green wire from the alarm to the car side of the yellow the ignition wire.
5. ground connection – black wire from the alarm, use an eye ring connector and attach to the chasis (make sure to contact bare metal)
6. siren connection - yellow and black wires from alarm system to siren
7 trunk release – white wire from alarm to black and white wire in the drivers side of truck solenoid.
8 turn signal left and right – both purple wires from the alarm to the brown wire in the headlight harness
9 door trigger left and right – purple wire from the alarm to white wire in the A pillar & blue wire from the alarm to the black wire in the A pillar. (these might need to be switched.)
10 hood trigger - use the green wire from the alarm to your hood trigger pin
11 break pedal – orange wire from the alarm to the white wire located in brake switch above the brake pedal
12 alternator input - don't know (do you mean Tach., if so it’s the white wire located on the connector side of the valve cover on the drivers side)
I hope this works for you! If anyone knows a different way or have some corrections, feel free to enlighten us.
Good Luck!!
what do you mean plug the alarm harness to the brain??? also wheres the trunk solenoid, headlight harness and the a pilar?????
"Sunfire got stolen, all i have is the J to remember it by"
Plug the wire harness that came with the alarm into the black box (brain) of the alarm. The trunk solenoid is inside the trunk where the lock is. The headlight harness is connected to the switch right next to the ignition harness (you have to remove the shroud around the steering wheel to access all the wiring you need). The A pillar is to the left of the windshield where the driver door and windshield meet. Remove that plastic piece by pulling carefully and it should pop off.
Hope this helps.
wow so i gotta run cables all the way to the back of the trunk....and a quick question....where is the hood cable????
i dont know if i asked this or not...but how am i suppose to connect all these cables????cut and then splice??? or is there an easier way....and you said that the ignition harness is under the steering wheel shroud???
"Sunfire got stolen, all i have is the J to remember it by"
You should be able to run one wire along the floor. The white wire from alarm to black and white wire in the drivers side of truck solenoid (under the carpet, just follow the other wires that lead into the trunk) The hood cable is how you unlock the hood to get to the engine. I wouldn't cut any wires in half just splice some of the wire cover off (about an inch) and connect and wrap the alarms wire w/ the cars wires, twist real good (not too hard or they'll break) then solder and tape. The steering wheel shroud is the plastic cover thats around the base of the steering wheel. Just take out the 2 or 3 screws that are under the steering wheel and it should pop off.
If you feel at any point like this is too much and you don't want to mess w/ the wiring then you should take it to a pro. It might cost a few bucks, but I don't want you blowing up your ride. If you do want to continue I suggest checking out.
http://www.the12volt.com/carsecurity/carsecurity.asp This is a really good site that alot of pros use. Also get a Haynes Manual for your car. All these and n8ball2013 helped me figure out what I needed so I can finish my install.
Good Luck!!!!
wish me luck...ima take your instructions and try it tomorrow......
are you available anytime??? like a cell or something...?

I wish I had a garage, so I can put mine in. The rain sucks and it's only sunny when I'm at work. At least it's not snowing.
No offense but, I wouldn't be the best person to contact for wiring an alarm or electronics. I'm still learning and got alot of help from the Org. & the12volt.com. I brought my alarm a few month back and I'm just getting comfortable understanding some of the basics of the alarm and that's cause I've been studying the manual. I recommend someone that knows a little more about car wiring, audio and security be within reach to help. I just don't want to give you the wrong advice and have your car blow up on you.
Sorry and Good Luck w/ the install Bro!
it wont blow up so to speak. other things though
damn...i got it going...but now it starts but thenshuts off...its really confusing....theres a yellow wire that says alternator/generator...is this the TACH??? please help me quick...im outside and it looks like its going to rain.
"Sunfire got stolen, all i have is the J to remember it by"
Ok im not reading all of this but i say go to ROC communications. West ridge Road in rochester.
They do great work and always treat ya right...
Glad you got this running.
I don't know, what does the manual say to connect this too?
If it mean Tach., then connect it to the white wire located on the connector side of the valve cover on the drivers side.
WAIT................................DO YOU HAVE A BYPASS MODULE??? I never even thought to ask before, you need this in order for it to work at all.
as I said before: I hope it makes sense and if it doesnt work. Im sorry and I disclaim all responsibility. Roscoe, I'll keep them in mind. Thanks!
what the @!#$ is a bypass module???
and what is

pictures please

DJ Silent wrote:what the @!#$ is a bypass module???
The bypass module is something you NEED to have in order to make the remote start work. Because of the Passlock 2 that we have installed on our cars. Go to Circuit City or Best Buy or your local audio/security place and ask them for a GMBP, I think it'll cost you about $50 bucks. Unfortunately there's no way around this. Where did you get your alarm from and what brand is it??? They should've mentioned you need a bypass module to set up a remote start.
DJ Silent wrote: theres a yellow wire that says alternator/generator...is this the TACH???

I mean look at the wiring manual that came with the alarm and see what the yellow wire should be connected to. Then connect to the correct wire on your car.
Get a GMBP and hook this up (It should be 4 wires) and get the tach and you should be all set.
If any Car Security pros out there can throw in some helpful suggestions. DJ Silent and I would much appreciate it!
ok look as these!! and let me know which one i need
