Ok so Im finally taking the hideous Alum. Wing off my fire. I was juss wonderin what i could use to cover up the holes on my trunk untill i get it to a body shop to get it shaved properly. I would juss wait and get the shop to take it off, but ive called around and was told that it would be extra for them to take it off. I figured if I took it off I would save some cash. Any opinions would be great!
Im also planing to shave the stock spoiler also. Does anyone know how many screws hold it on? And what I can use to cover those holes up temporary also? Thanks!

Glad to see youre shaving it! Cant remember but I think its 6 bolts holding the stock one on. You can use electrical tape to cover the holes until you get em welded.
Micah you know more than me about sunfires, but is it possible to find a trunklid without factory spoiler in the junkyard. I checked car-part.com for 2002's and it showed 2dr w/spoiler, but 99's could be had without spoiler in the 2dr. I don't know if they are interchangeable, but a used trunklid w/o spoiler could be cheaper than paying someone to fill the holes.
Yeah there were some Sunfires that came from factory without the spoiler and all 2dr trunklids were interchangeable from 95-05. As for that being a cheaper route I dont know. Im not sure what a body shop would charge to fill the holes. Oh and I'm sure there is a spoilerless trunklid in a junkyard in NC.
Well im going to call around again tomorrow. I called friday and everyone that would do it told me that if they had to remove the wing and spoiler, that it would cost me more. So thats why i figured to do it myself. I will look into some junkyards though. But most that I have seen around here have Sunfires, but they are wrecked in the rear.

i'd try a junk yard, or if you can park the car for a few days, i'd take trunk completely off and take off the spoiler. then run it to the body shop.
works even better if you know how to weld and do body work yourself

When we find a body filler that can stand up to the flexing the L7s are putting on your poor trunklid.
LMAO yeah i can just see the filler cracking and flying off bud's trunklid...
agreed. bud, it'd be a waste of time on your car lol

We can build up buds trunklid with nothing but weld and grind it down. No comment about the amount of warping from heat.

Yeah we didnt do much welding on mine but it warped pretty bad so its gonna need plenty work to get it straight again....
Yeah you can't just lay a bead with the welder, just quick tacks or it will warp. Sheetmetal nowadays is about as thick as two pieces of paper.
or we could all pitch in and buy me a cf trunk lid

Umm, okay maybe we will try body filler.
andy could make me a fiber glass one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Or you could just buy a fiberglass one and save all the trouble!
i could.....then andy could do cool things to it....like mold in my spoiler
wow yall think i'm a magician
